It's funny, our three boys are all from Ireland and non of them had a clue what to do when you offered a carrot when we got them.

We've had Caffrey 7 years, Badger 3 and Tully 1, and they are all at varying degrees of rudeness!

Caffrey now nudges you and looks in your pockets to the full to look for treats as soon as you go and see him - strange how things change!

Starbucks - thats really interesting you say that about Irish and carrots. My new boy has only been over a couple of months and i've had him one, will not eat carrots. He likes apples but not carrots or polos either!!! If there are carrots in his food he'll actually pick them out and leave them. HOw long did it take yours to learn to like them?!

My mare hates chestnuts. She is the loveliest, kindest horse and so gentle with people and horse. You can put her out with anyone...unless they're chestnut!!

My horse is fresh over from Ireland and he didn't know what to do with a carrot or a mint, he still isn't fussed about carrots but has a weakness for a mint.

I haven't had him long but the bond between us is amazing, he sees me on my bike pedalling like mad up the yards drive and he gallops up the fence with me to be bought in, even if I'm in the car he comes over to the fence where ever he is in the field and its a big field.

One day last week or so we were having a little cuddle in the stable when one of the other liveries came over to see him, my horse flew at him eyes white over the stable door, so I'm guessing he doesn't like certain men, he's ok with my OH and two small boys, but this chap he took an instant dislike to.

Strange aren't they.

I would say the only people who could catch her are me, my mother and my farrier, but hoping that with the increased time they're spending with her the twins (Sunflower & Weevil) shall soon qualify for the select group!

Believe - Gosh, she likes *everyone*

She's like an oversized lab the way she bounds up to people wanting to make friends!!

Rosie likes most people unless they're really loud and is much more comfortable with people who have inner peace, if you get me!! She feels other peoples stress really easily.

Target is a bit of a bully and will pick on people she thinks are frightened of her, mostly becasue she's a big girl. If you stand up to her she's putty in your hands!!

Jesper loves anyone who brings him food (favourites include stud muffins, carrots, apples, pears, hot chocolate and lucozade); me; my mum (a.k.a treat woman); anyone who is prepared to stand and scratch him; my vet (I swear my horse is in love with him); my current farrier; coloured horses.
He hates all ponies; any horses who dare to enter his field (unless coloured); any horses who dare to enter his personal space full stop (unless coloured); any horses his favourite people pay attention to; men in hats; my ex boyfriend... basically he's very jealous!

when in the stable/in hand/ridden mine loves anyone who feeds him! and he just loves attention! if you scratcdh his head your a friend for life!
Hes fussy in the field though. He'l stand there with his ears pricked forwards and winny at me but will still make me treck across the field to go to him.... will occasionally come if he sees ive got his rug and is a bit chilly or is just feeling paticularly loving that day. HE does get jelous though and if he sees another of the horses coming to me first he will quickly make a b line to chase other horse off before heading over to me.
However other people can dangle a carrot infront of him when he is stood by the gate in the field and he will not go to them... you have to go to him

once youve got to him its another story and he will follow you like a dog for more pats/treats lol

My girlie is very fussy, she likes to surround herself with people she likes, if she doesnt like you she'll put her ears back and tell you to go away! If she likes you she'll sell her soul to try and please you.

In general she doesnt like men but theres a couple she will tolerate, my OH being one, Hes quiet with her and feeds her lots of apples.

She loves other horses, she will never kick or bite them. She is like a mother hen, shes always the first to show a new horse the ropes.

Rupert, arab-of-great-fatness, hates...

Coloureds (obviously racist)
Shetlands (dwarfist)
My husband (husband-ist?)

But he loves farriers, and absolutely adores vets, any vet, and the equine dentist.

My boy hates men, even my OH who only does nice things, like give him polo's and turns him out.
The vet, the dentist, both men.
He tolerates the farrier.
He is suspicious of any one new, male or female, won't even be caught in his stable or take food from them.
Coloured horses.
Geldings.

He loves small ponies of either sex.

PMSL!

My girl likes anyone with food, has a deep love for my farrier, respects the dentist and one of her vets. She has been known to mug people who she knows carry treats in their pockets.

She dislikes anyone who hithers and dithers around her (including another of the vets!). She is very possessive of me and will pin her ears back bare her teeth and glare at anyone I'm talking to outside her stable. Small children seem to be attracted to her, which is a bit worrying, but so far she has not eaten any. She can sometimes be quite sooky, but it is all an act, she is just trying to lull you into a false sense of security so she can have a nibble at you.

A couple of my horses really don't like any strangers at all coming near them. I know why and I understand this. The rest of my gang LOVE people - ANY people!! They are so friendly and love to meet new people.

All of my horses like new horses and ponies; I keep them pretty well socialised with respects to other horses. I make sure I move them all around so that everyone knows everyone else. Most of my fields adjoin each other so they meet over the fences all the time even if they don't go in with some of the others. I never let my big boys in with the little young ones, however they do adore them over the fence.

They are all excellent with dogs; I have 4 dogs who are always mooching around in the fields and the horses like them and are very used to them being in their fields.

None of my guys get edible treats - way too many of them and they would swamp people if they were used to having edible treats, so it's easier just to not give them any.
