is your horse out today or not ?

Temps 30deg plus for the next week. Mine are at the gate by 10.00am asking to come in. all but two have field shelters but they want their stables.

It does mean my yard work finishes at about 9.00pm!!

I gave my Highland Pony a bath with warm water, he has a strop if I put cold water on him even in these temps.

Out. They are always out. They have plenty of natural shelter though and there's a nice breeze here. Both bathed this morning and the 2 yo went straight to a big pile of sheep poo and rolled all over it so his white bits are nice and green again ;)

Mine is out, no natural shade sadly but her stable is even more hit and stuffy than the field, at least there's a little bit if breeze.
I treated her to a nice cold bath at lunchtime to help cool her off.

All outside as usual, each have access to a field shelter and water. I brought my mare in for a cool bath early afternoon because she was very hot (sweat pouring off her!) - but she wanted to go back out, so back out she went! She's now snoozing in the shelter.

Mine are out, despite having no natural shelter :/ Fetched them in yesterday for about 3 hours while I was doing fencing & poo picking. Thought they'd enjoy the respite, but they were kicking at the doors & practically fell over themselves to go back out - & were a pain to boot! So they're lumping it today. Will fetch them in for the day tomorrow though.. It's supposed to be the hottest day for a while.

usually my ponies are out 24/7 in the summer but they have made it quite clear they'd rather be in over these last few days so i brought them in at 11 this morning so they got to enjoy some sunshine but were not out in the wordt of the heat.

In. He mostly
Comes in during the day as he is a fatty. Also he is black and the trees bushes face the wrong way to give him any shade

Mine are always in during day in summer so they are in today. One did dressage this morning the other will hack later on - might go out bareback so I can leave my shorts on tho!!

He was out today, in tonight (and very glad to come in too) but will turn him around tomorrow and keep him in during the hottest part of the day and turn him out tomorrow evening to spend the night in his field with his friends.

Kal's field has no shelter and there is just no breeze at all. Thankfully he isn't plagued by the flies although he has been covered head to toe with fly spray.

P

Mine are out, there are big trees around the field if they need shade. We went for a hack today and hosed them off afterwards. Inside the stables was hotter than outside.

Out for most of the day, in at night. Have the option to swap it round but i wouldn't want mysti on the grass for that long!

Pete was worked this morning & went out about 8am - bought him in about 5pm.

He'll be out as usual in the day - there's plenty of natural shade for them.

Out 24/7, stables can be pretty stuffy in this weather, I'm lucky that mine isn't bothered by flies, even horseflies she doesn't seem fussed by but then again she was feral until she was 6, she's 10 now and has lived out 24/7 most of the time.

out as normal and also in his grazing muzzle too so feel rather mean but he does have natural shade and it is cooler than his stable.

Also hosed him after hacking and he had had a rest in his hot stable for an hour or so - lay down flat out but his stable was hot and airless whereas at least outside there was a little breeze.

Got a lesson tomorow at 11.00am and very glad am not competing tomorrow.

Out and in as she wants, but she does come in during the day atm to her barn even though she has natural shelter because of flies (have to say it's horse flies, we are not bothered in general with other flies).

I know loads of people have different opinons about what weather is alright to turnout horses out in. rain, cold ect and now heat ?

swallow's out and will be in tonight :)

so is your horse out in the lovely sunshine ?

We wont do 24.7.

We have now changed to summer regime when the horses come in at 7am and out at 4pm.

Well out, but in the field shelter! It has FINALLY clicked with them that the field shelter is cool and out the flies.

However I bring them in to be ridden, they get a full hosing after and we don't do too much if I can't get there early or haven't got time for an evening ride. Ridden work is quickly followed by a good hose down which they love

We rode my two early (8.30 a.m.) - back by 10, and it was getting very hot then, plus horseflies getting thoroughly nasty.

My stables are in the wrong place :(, and get boiling hot, think black hole of Calcutta. So to put them inside isn't really an option at the moment as the stables are so hot, it just wouldn't be fair.

So they're both out 24/7 at the mo; traddie boy has his sweet itch rug on and mare has a Premier Equine fly sheet.

They've both got shade they can go to under an old oak tree; but today the two stooopid loons were out at midday right in the fierce sun, mebbe they've had so much wet weather over last summer and the winter/spring, that they're soaking the sun up while its here perhaps.

We're 500ft up and face the west here, so get quite a lot of afternoon sun but also do get a nice breeze with it.

But hey, this is "summer". Today and tomorrow when its gonna be even hotter.

Then, mark me, Monday/Tuesday it'll get so hot it'll all blow up into a thunderstorm, and then hey presto, summer over.

You see :)

My lad is out overnight and in during the day - keeps him off the grass for a bit, and means his nose doesn't burn!

I do feel sorry for the ones out at ours at the mo - there isn't much shade, and even in reflective rugs, the day horses came in sweated up, and the night horses were sweating a bit in the barn today as no breeze so not great either way...

Mine is out naked, but fly wash bath, and coated in spray!
