Hi the big orange boy on the left is very accident prone and was just wondering how many other people suffer like me with endless vet bill and out of action horses

Glad its not just my ginger boy, he is very playful in the field and gets into all sorts of bother. Is also good at pulling off his shoes and has come down on the nails .

My horse is covered in all sort of scars, lumps and bumps. I think she fancies the vet and is addicted to danillon and what ever other drugs they give her.
So don't worry you're not alone!

Mine is!!! He is covered in scars and lumps where he has managed to hurt him self.
Last summer accident - still dont knwo how he did it

He is always getting cuts etc, think he only has to catch him self on a bramble and he gets a cut he is that delicate.

My small orange boy gets infections where other horses would not even need the wound cleaning, he is constantly catching his legs and coming up with bumps and lumps, he gets skin rashes and general skin problems...Maybe it's something to do with being orange?

Yes glad to say he is. He was so lucky to miss his tendons and to not get an infection while it healed. Has a nice big scar on his leg now - mind you rather a sound horse with a scar than anything else!

Yep, my boy too. Do you reckon this is more of a boy thing?
If I got a week without the vet I was lucky, he cost me a fortune with his antics in the field. Ive never seen a horse play as rough before and it used to make me cringe. Last straw was a fractured Radius and he had to go out alone after that for a while whilst it strengthened. I decided to keep him apart from the other horses, he can touch, groom but not get injured. Feel rotten really but reckon he'd be dead now if I hadnt

wow think it could be something to do with it he has had permanent lumps all over his body for about a yr now but vets dont seem too concerned. He cut his legs quite badly other day(both back) about 8 superficial and 1 that required 10 staples

One of my girls is very prone to little scratches and grazes

but thankfully hasn't needed the vet for any of them so far...

Yep my orange arab could injure himself in a padded cell I am sure...! I do show him in hand but its a good job I bought him for endurance as he has a scar on his front leg from brambles...although this is healing slowly, and was play fighting with a colt in the next field over a trough and has a bump on his front leg just above his coronet band...I am glad he is only kept with my 2 girls or he would be one big injury as he is always bottom of the heap!

My grey lad is terrible, he overreached in the field about a month or so ago.
Then he jumped onto a five bar gate cut all his leg and got an elephant leg.
About 3 weeks ago he pulled a shoe, got an abcess and is still out of work.

my old section d semmed to be prone to self harm at times so much so that the lady on the next lane with field back to back with us used to say hows gwilym is he still on self distruct !

My partly orange boy is horribly accident prone, he's been off work for 5 months now having successfully managed a series of consecutive injuries, and is always covered in cuts and grazes. Even if he's in a field on his own he still plays and fights over the fence

Not really but she did gallop around the field a few weeks ago and bruise her foot and was lame for 3 weeks. The only other time she was lame it was for 9 months, though.

Yes! My mare can be turned out into a field with nothing in and come in with bit ripped out of her. Its never ending with her.
the joys of owning horses

oh yes, my old mare was always doing something but the classic was she once managed to somehow kick herself in the leg, cracking a splint bone while on individual turnout recovering from another injury. She's now 'safely' turned away at a retirement home (fingers crossed, anything can happen!)...
