We got chased by a herd or playing bullocks that saw us and decided to bomb after us bucking. My boy weren't too bad but my mums mare that my friend was riding nearly had a nervous breakdown..not good when there's a ditch on one side and barbed wire on the other!

She used to be terrified of them :( then we moved to a new livery yard where some cows happened to be in the field next door and it de sensitised her lol. Even had to go thro a field of cows on a sponsored ride once and she was fine bless her :).

Ha mine does what yours does...takes herself over to the gate to say hi, but unlike yours she don't appreciate the kisses!!!

It's like a horror film - they look like they're eating your horse.
"Silence of the cows staring Bug2007":D

Actually I think they look cute with your horse. Mine is reduced not to jelly but to blancmange in the sun when he sees camels and donkeys.:)

Oh bless him! I cant imagine my boy doing that. He'll go past them but is quite freaked out about it and if they run at him then i've got a good chance of being galloped home with. Going through the cow farm on a hacking route is tricky.

OMG!!!
That is sooo cute:)
My older appaloosa would die of a heart attack if a cow tried to do that to him
The tb would love it :D
Kx

Not my horse, but someone's horse that I ride is terrified of cows .........and coloured horses :o Even more awkward in a showing class and there's a CHAPS class in the ring next to you!

Nope :D he works them all by himself, it would be a surprise if he didn't.

I had one arab mare who was petrified of them, until she spent a summer in the same field as them, after that she didn't care.

That photo is ultra cute!! Mine used to be terrified of them (getting better as I ride past them more) but my old cob I think used to think he was one and loved them :p

We are surrounded by the pesky things, there is a dairy herd opposite the yard gate and several unruly herds of beef bullocks all over the place, the majority behind hedges. Im not sure which is worse, the sudden unexpected thundering of hooves as the bullocks all charge the hedge then escort you along, snorting and cavorting unseen, or the undignified Bob Fleming style coughing and wheezing from the dairy herd. My horse is unimpressed by either!

My stable is next-door to a cowshed so pretty good for desensitising!

Anyway must pop of to add enfys horse to the list of members horses I'd like to own.

That is very sweet. My horse isn't keen on them and I am sure if would be pretty hairy trying to ride through a field of them. He really freaks when we see a herd of deer and cows are quite striking.

I have heard most horses are scared of pigs but haven't encountered one.

Aaahh that's SOOO cute. Mind you, I'd have been terrified the young cow would grab the bridle, pull and not let go!!!!:D:D Sort of thing that would have happened to me if I'd done that!! :D:D

OP LOL lovely picture just as well your pony likes cows living in Dorset there are a few about. Loving Enfys photos as usual.

Ha... that's brilliant!:D

Well yes and no is the answer to that.

He doesnt mind the ones he's used to passing in our village (both in a field and in sometimes in the cow sheds) but on the occassions I've taken him past other cow fields and sheds anyone would think they were going to kill him, he can deal with things in familiar surroundings but taken out of his comfort range, he's a big wuss!

Not met any with Trixie yet but I am petrified of the blinkin things :( I got chased by some playful bullocks doing my D of E and haven't recovered yet ( I am a jelly I know)

Enfys I LOVE your photos - amazing :)

Where Prince doesn't mind the cows, Bug was standing a little further away she doesn't mind them but doesn't like kisses, she is more of a Ram lover...!!!!!:D:D:D:D

I have heard most horses are scared of pigs but haven't encountered one.

My YO also keeps pigs, a cow, goats, sheep, assorted ducks/chickens/geese etc on the school farm, so my two are used to anything! When we lived in Galicia, which is cow country, there were cows everywhere - Ari grew up with them so took no notice at all.

Goat flocks are the thing here - they bloody stink and will follow the horses if you meet them out hacking. It's a sort of, 'Wow! You're a big goat where are you going?'

Nope! The livery yard I used to be at was a working farm, but mainly arable and sheep. The farmer bought a few calves and stuck them in one of the stables in the courtyard which caused absolute carnage with every other horse on the yard - cue handstands, snorting and ripping leadropes out of hands to run away. Not Baz, he immediately walked up and stuck his head over the stable door and had a chat. :D

Hugo doesn't seem to mind them, but previous horse was terrified of the Highlands near here - it started when one appeared suddenly from behind a tree and scared the bejeezus out of her!! Would always skip past their field sharpish from then on!!

She didn't like pigs either, but they are behind a high wall and can't actually be seen (just heard!!) so it wasn't so bad. Haven't taken Hugo past them yet, so can't say! I think he'll be ok - he's pretty chilled most of the time! :D

What a cute picture!!! Love!

My mare isn't afraid of them. Once a herd of young bullocks came charging at us. My friend's horse spun and bolted. But Welsh Mare with Attitude stood her ground and stared down the bovines until they stood still and behaved. And then she led her scaredy horse friend safely into the next field.

On several occasions she's wanted to touch noses with cows, but I wouldn't let her in case either of them spooked and set the other off.

But once there was a group of little calves in a field without their mothers and I let her stick her nose over the fence to give them cuddles and they cuddled her back. She MELTS when she sees any kind of baby--human, equine, or other species.

My Haffie doesnt mind cows too much tho the heavy breathing and snorting she isnt so keen on. Shes less keen on sheep even tho we have 40! But her real nightmare is Golden retrievers, she seems to think they are her babies gone evil in a Chucky kind of way, she starts crooning at them and wont come away but neither will she pass them, just transfixed in a horror movie way....

We tried to get over it with a training session in the manege with a cream blanket on a rope, but had to stop it when she wouldnt let us near the blanket.....

my pony has never met cows up close and she gives sheep a funny look as she goes by them. that first picture is sooo cuuute!! there are some mahoosive cows across a footpath between one of our paddocks though and if they're ever by the fence she stands at stares at them. she crapped herself once when one of them mooed at her!

however, my sisters warmblood has been spending his time trying to talk to the cows on the other side of the fence. his favourite is the bull and is upset that he wont talk to him! apparently once on a hack through the field the cows were hidden behind a hedge and he spent the whole time being busy looking for them :D
