Mine is! He has absolutley no experience with horses at all.. until recently, when he has taken a rather large interest in my horse!

It started with turning him out and bringing him in, then progressed to feeding him.. Now everytime he comes to the yard, they are 'HIS' jobs!! :D He always looks rather pleased with himself after he's done something all on his own! :)

This weekend he moved up a level!... He was bugging me ALL Sunday morning about wanting to ride my horse, so I finally gave in and let him. Once he was on, he wouldn't get off! He even walked over poles and did a bit of trot (until he hurt himself down there!! :p) Luckily Socks was on his best behaviour.. He's more like a donkey than an ex-racer!!

-Ashley looking rather pleased with himself :D (The ill-fitting coat belongs to me btw!!)

So, how much of an interest do your partners take in your horses??

None whatsoever - and that's the way I loike it :D

OH is petrified of horses and the only time he has ever been near one is when we were drunk at a friends place and decided half past 2 in the morning was a perfect time to saddle up. OH sat behind me and was so drunk he nearly took both of us off the poor horse.

The paddock is my 'go away real world' hiding place and he knows better than to disturb me :p

I wish mine was! He says the stables are "dirty" :D At one point he thought my horse didn't like him. He did sit on him once, over a year ago and couldn't beleive how fast he was (he did a slow walk :D). But I don't mind really, means I get my own time and enjoy the horse without the whinging that it's cold, or smelly etc.

Mine takes loads of interest, he moves muck, cuts hay, bales it, fixes the machines to do everything, changes rugs, turns out brings in, feeds, does the haynets, water etc, the only thing he won't do is muck out which is fair enough, bless him I don't know what I would do without him, he used to ride a few years back but hasn't got time nowadays, my daughter does all the riding now, cuz we are a pair of old foggies lol x

At least as keen as I am! Although I had ridden and had my own pony when I was younger, I had a long no-horse break before we got together. A few months into our relationship I had bought my girl so we could hack out together. Now we are into our dressage and loving it!! Works really well as there is nowhere each of us would rather be than with our girls, and it means we actually get to see each other too!

mine did when we went to look at S. Lasted 48 hours.

He regularly throws them in my face that they cost me too much and take all my time and I put them first. Not at all, I DO them first so I can get home to spend time with him. Not that I will be bothering. TBH without saying it he is pretty much forcing me to choose. Most of them were there first and I get a lot less grief from them!

I'd like a horsey other half I think, at least one interested enough to come down ocassionally at the weekend and stroke them or come and watch me jump B! Think I'm at a bit of a decision point and the horses are a major consideration.

I'm pleased yours is showing an interest, just watch out or you'll be ending up watching him ride your horse everyday, or buying another!! lol.

He takes lots of interest :D He comes up to the yard early to muck out while I turn out/feed even though I keep telling him to stay in bed! He often helps with trotting poles/jumps and walks out to keep us company when hacking out. He's even groomed for me when I was delayed in traffic after work so we could hack/walk out together.
Not to mention the countless hours he stood in the cold and rain to watch or be on hand :D I think he also misses the Red when he's working away ;)

I'd let him ride him but Red is a dinky 15.1 tb and my OH is a bit of a chunky man and would probably squish him!

Absolutely no interest what so ever!!!! I was in a no horse part of my life when we met and got married etc but I'd always said I wanted another someday, OH was very supportive of this as he knew I loved them, anyway once I'd bought my boy the OH has since turned into a jealous toddler!! Always moaning about the time money etc (for which he very rightly contributes neither!!), however after much nagging he finally came and watched me at dressage, my boy was so so good I came out of the arena in tears of joy (and he won!), since the OH saw the true enjoyment I get from horses he has stopped the moaning, however still has no intrest what so ever, which sometimes I secretly quite like!!

My OH didn't like horses at all before I bought my girl.
He is now capable of doing all yard jobs, including changing rugs!, unattended, can handle my brat better than alot of 'experienced horse people' and, shock of all horrors, can walk straight up to a usually uncatchable pony and lead him straight in
We're going to start looking for a nice cob next year. Oh and a little one for our three year old :D

He looks and sounds fab :)

My OH bought my horse for me and takes a huge interest in her, we share most if not all decisions and he often goes down to the yard and "do" her for me. He's ridden her once too :D

My husband is and although nowhere near as keen as me, he will jump on Luna from time to time to come for a hack out! In fact, if he thinks it's anything which will involved speed...such as going to the local farm ride or the beach, he is doubly keen and has even learnt to jump on doll, just by following me over stuff at the farm ride!

He is quite good about jobs too and will help with mucking out (in a fashion), fillinf nets etc...he's not great at tidying up though so i have to make sure that I follow behind with a sweeping brush and shovel otherwise the YO moans! lol

He is a bit of an old married woman when he comes up to the yard too as he wants to chat to everyone....quite often he'll say, I'll tip that wheelbarrow for you and then I am stood there for half an hour waiting for it to come back as he's got chatting to someone!!

I have been out of action this last week after an operation and he has been really great. Although everyone at the yard has been chipping in to see to my girls, he has been up every night to do the evening jobs and feed up.

He has his own business and works really long hours...otherwise i think he'd quite like his own...in fact, when we bought Dulcie, the people we got her from had another horse for sale and if I hadn't talked him out of it I think he'd have bought it!!! (it wasn't ideal for a fairly novicey part-timer, beign a 17hh 7yr old TB who the owner deemed too dangerous for hunting over timber - 'but a gentleman to hack'!)

Great photo! love the fact he's also wearing your red jacket!

my husband is scared of horses and wont set foot at the yard (he came a couple of times, right at the beginning when he was trying to impress me!!!)

He is football mad though, which takes up about as much time-so he cant moan when i disappear off to the yard for a few hours and leave him with the babies :)

My OH is slowly being brainwashed :) He loves my mare as a subject for his photography. I got him on board once a few years ago.
However yesterday he was trying to convince me to get another one!! Comes to something when non horsey OH tries to convince me we can afford another. All I said was "I think she is lonely" as she followed him all round the field. She is currently on her own, new livery arriving in a couple of weeks :)
He is a fantastic Mr Fixanything on the yard.

mine hates them, he's a farmer and apparently my horses eat good grass that the bullocks could be eating!!!!
He does, very rarely and very reluctantly help if i'm caught up at work but that is only to bring them in, never mucks out or changes rugs and most the time I ring him to ask him to do it & its still not done when I get home in the dark & rain cos "I was just getting to that!!". Also have 2 small children so balancing that and the horses is not easy, but I love it & I love my horses - it'l be summer soon!!!

My boyfriend bought my horse for me. He come up occasionally to the yard but i must say he is a much better horse person that most of the OHs that tag along to the yard. If im working late he goes up and does all my chores, hes also good at riding even tho hes not that experienced. He loves her to bit and totally melts when she whinnies at him. Last week he was complaining about how much money she costs to keep and said (out of anger i think) that we should sell her:(...................however, i asked him lastnight if he still wanted to sell her after we had come home from a 2.5 hour hack together (him on my big WB and me trying to keep up on a friends pony!) and needless to say he said no ;) lol

Very!

In fact she is ours really not mine.

We met in a riding lesson and to be honest I'm not sure I could justify the expense of a horse if we didn't both enjoy it.

He absolutely adores her. He tries to hide the soppyness..... but he did insist we went back up the yard last night to say goodnight to her as we were "passing". He is as soft as anything with the treats (bags of carrots go down very quickly when he's around) and spoils her rotten, not just with treats, she knows Dad is a soft touch and she has to behave for mum......

He has also been laid in bed on a few occasions and fretted about whether she is warm enough.

Will ask how the horse went when ive been riding, or how they are if been off colour.
Im pretty sure he's not that interested, but is happy to help me when i need it.
He's not horsey and doesnt ride, has came with me when ive been competingto help out ..... Mabe hes more interested than i think he is

My OH bought my first horse for my 30th birthday as for the 10 years we were together I had mainly been on a break from horses but went on about them all the time so it was his suggestion to get me one. He was fab with Harry my first horse used to come and muck out while I did all the things with the horse. When I had to go away for work he would bring in, change rugs, pick out feet etc. When I was pregnant he learnt to ride Harry he was a bit tall but not too heavy but he did walk and trot.

After baby he got into offroading and completely lost interest but he will still come and help with jobs like shifting hay, putting things up and when I had to have a week of rest last year he mucked out for me, but he won't go near my mare because she is quite aggressive towards men but that's fair enough. He will also walk or cycle out with me very very occasionally :)

Mine has actually managed to build up a tolerance to his horse allergy! Very scary process to watch - I kept telling him not to bother, but he kept at it. Now he happily brings in, turns out, holds for the farrier and dentist, helps with tacking up, and even lunges! Yesterday he trotted her up in hand.
He can't put out fresh shavings or groom her due to dust, but he mixes feeds, fills hay nets and lugs heavy stuff around without a second thought.
He wants to take lessons on her this summer coming...

Not in the slightest unless I've fallen off. He's seriously allergic to horses so much so that if he's in an indoor arena he starts sneezing, wheezing and eyes streaming. If he annoys me I'll hug him whilst wearing my yard coat. He reads H&H from cover and cover tho and he's been known to correct me several times over who rides / used to ride what horse........

Simple answer - NO!! :( :( :(. It does make things quite awkward

Likewise my husband absolutly resents my pony and horse. He is jealious of them, especially the cobblet. OH says you put them before me and the kids.(hmmmmm him yes, kids, theyre actually teens).
BUT if they get out he will take me up there as I do not drive and occasionally will pop some hay out for them.He really doesnt like them. My point his he shouldnt of got loan for cobblet for me in the beginning. He doesnt spend time with me these days so I have my horse and pony.

Mine is very good - he will 'do' them in the mornigns if I want an early start at work as in today - i need to finish early to have my hair done (!!!!) so he has fed and hayed and changed rugs etc. They live out so its not too bad.

He will also do vet/farrier duty if i can't get out of work, and is in the process of fixing my trailer and the pony trap. He will also come on foot or bike when I want to hack the idiotic one out. :)
