Sounds like an odd Q but my OH and I have noticed that the new yard we are on is not actually that horsey. There are 16 horses and I never see the other owners about no matter what time of day I go down and even at weekends I usually only see one or two others- I have also noticed that when I speak to people i.e. yard owner as I am away over weekend for olympia /your horse live/ competing they look suprised that I'm doing something horsey...

No one competes which is no bad thing but it just feels really empty and souless on the yard. When it snowed only my car tyre prints were on the yard, and when the farrier came the YO sorted all the horses out...... I have been told there are 9 other owners but have only met 2 of them. Anyone else got a yard like this.

Part of me loves it as when OH and I go up its peacefull and we can chat quietly doing the boys but sometimes i'd like someone to chat to or to share advice....

How odd. Don't the other owners do anything at all with their horses? Why have them?

Mind you, I'd quite like it if our yard was a bit quieter sometimes, there tends to be a bit of a bundle for the school especially in the evenings.

The yard i was on was very horsey. It was a large yard with a wide range of people of differing ages. Lots competed but most were just local shows. Most horses were ridden regularly unless lame/ill or retired. Perhaps your yard may come to life abit when the spring comes!!

That is odd. Mine is like a hive, always things going on, trailers coming in and out going to rides or shows. I like it on the rare occasions when I'm one of the few people there but I think I'd miss the activity if it was like that all the time.

awww looks like its just me then... hoping with the brighter days of spring the yard would be busier so I can hack out with others :)

Mine is horsey, but it's a DIY yard. I think sometimes those on full or part livery tend to have other interests and therefore less time for the horses.

Yep. :) One of the best things about my yard is that almost everyone "uses" their horses. Some compete, some don't, but loads hack, school, have lessons, etc. Even the couple of retired horses' owners are often about grooming them or grazing them in hand.

Their are only 21 boxes and full and part livery only, but every evening plenty of people are down riding, doing jobs and just hanging about. I've been there a few years now but I still really appreciate the social aspect of it. On my last yard, even though it had loads of good points, nearly every night I was there doing jobs and riding on my own except for the YM and it had really started to depress me.

Mine is like that, there are 18 horses- 3 are the YO's, the rest are liverys, two are DIYs who are down alot. There are 11 owners and I don't usually see any of the apart from DIYs during the week- there's only one other person on full livery who goes down every day. Two of them come and muck out at weekends and don't even go and see their ponies  Basically sums up my yard!

Ours is like this. Always someone around but you can always find solitude if you want it.

on ours there are regulars thatv ride (always the same people even at diff times)! etc.... a handful compete (like 3?)! lol

and some just have them for pets - each to their own!

how odd though not to actually be 'horsey' with a horse lol! Im forver looking at the next event i can go watch and what else i can try with my horse! :D
