I know ponies stop at 14.2 hh but don't you think sometimes its more about personality and attitude than size? My current mare is 15.1 but is most definitely a big pony (full of cheek and a complete piglet) Whereas my previous girl was only 14.1 but was very much a small horse in personality (she was arab x which might explain it). So what size are yours and would you say they are big ponies or small horses?

Bodey (15hh) my coloured cob is defiantly a big pony, I work very hard to make his paces more horse like. And well Badger the Fjord (14hh) is a pony but basically a 16hh horse on short legs, he still rides pony but more bouncy pony then Bodey.

My 16.3 monster is 100% pony in his thinking. Highland pony thinking. He is intelligent, stubborn, opinionated and cheeky.

He is also loyal, dependable and sensible and has a sense of humour.

Paddy (15hh connie) is most definitely just an overgrown big pony - he is opinionated, likes to get out of work, can take a rug off faster than houdini and is cute/cuddly aww.

my daughters shettie thinks he is a very big horse...my 14.2hh arab cross on the other hand is a big pony, my 14hh thinks shes a big horse and Star and Willow? their just ponies.

Although Star measures at 14.2, she has no withers at all! she would measure in no problem. but put her next to a 14.2 pony with withers - and she looks bigger. Despite this - She rides like a big pony! Attitude, Craftyness, Short stride, a problem solver and gets bored easily.

Pip is a small horse- Very dim

but huge stamina and larger more WBy paces. The section B's, shetty and Ginga are all pony ponies though

Mine is a horse with a pony brain - she will always get herself out of trouble & sort her legs out, but definately too polite to be a proper ponehorse!

Perfect compromise

My highland x, 15hh is defo a big pony! storms off stands on my feet, nips your bum! whereas my 14.2 mare tbx conne is def small horse, she look at my highland in total dismay and disgust most of time!!

mmmm, dont think we do have one of her doing dressage- its not her strong point

although she is getting better- I will get her mum to take some of her at Brigstock!
Her Sire is Zak, Dam Katie...the highly classey event horse / showjumping breeding of the well known coloured cob

Apprently she goes back to something posh, but I cant remember now- her mum could tell you it right back to her great great great grand dad

Star is definitely a horse, but I do tend to call Be (16hh WB) my big pony as she is very pony like in nature

Hmm, well Lukey is a 14hh newfie with plenty of attitude, so lives up to his pony status rather well!

He doesn't have your average small pony paces though, his walk is very horse-like and elegant
