My little shetland lives out and i went and gave him some food and checked his rug and water ect. i called him over and he was struggaling to walk on his front left leg he was limping..he knee is swolen and a litle bit of heat init what do you think it maybe???? could you let me know?? thank you xx

If it is lami you need to get the vet out NOW.

However it does sound like a kick/twist of somekind to his knee as I would not expect swelling this high up from lami. Have you checked his feet? Do they have heat in them? What about his knee is this hot? Is the swelling a bruise or is it fluid filled?

If my horse was severly lame in walk I would get the vet out right away if I could not see the cause of lameness.

Lami signs are usually a horse leaning back to try to take the weight off his front feet. If it was just in one foot (unusual) it might look a little different but it would be the FOOT that was hot and tender, not the knee. Like LadyT says, I think your wee ned has more likely pulled a muscle or tendon. I'd cold hose his knee for a few days but if it looks worse at any time or isn't getting better, get the vet out x
