We are thinking of moving to the IOW with my three horses. We are hoping to find a house with land for them but what is livery like on the island? Are there good vets, blacksmiths that anyone can recommend . If anyone on here has done the same do you love or hate it!!

My OH wants me to retire to an island (Scottish) but I worry about getting bored with the same hacking scenery...the cost of travelling on and off the island to attend anything horsey...and heaven forbid getting fast specialist horse vets in the event of an emergency. My brother lives on IOW...it is a lovely place.

Amazing blacksmiths and vets. Lovely livery yards and hacking. Limited venues but there is a very impressive looking new competition centre opening in the next year. Ferry fees are extortionate if you regularly compete on the mainland and everyone does know everyone so can be very bitchy.

I wish there were more opportunities for cross country and pony club events but the hacking is truly amazing so overall I love it

I looked at Wight link multi ticket and it didn't look too bad! We have a house in Sandown as a holiday place so familiar with the cost of the ferry. All mine are retired so no competing. We are in Hertfordshire so couldn't buy a shed for a price of a house with land on the island but it would be a big move especially as my old mare hasn't travelled for 19yrs! Not the easiest of horses either.

I may be wrong but don't think you can get multilink tickets for trailer use. I haven't looked into it but if that was a much cheaper option I feel like I would have heard of it ;) it is a lovely place to live. The beach is never far away and theres endless hacking on the downs. Pm me if you need any more information :)
