Left the yard a few minutes before 8 and arrived at Isleham just in time to be directed to park right infront of the SJ arena so sat in the cab watching that while Rosie walked the course. Bertie seemed fairly calm but pricked his ears up and had a good look round when he came off the lorry for Rosie to do the studs. Pottered over to the dressage in good time to warm up but there were an awful lot of horses milling about and he decided he was scared of them and started shying and skipping sideways whenever one came towards him. Rosie and her Mum went right away from them and tried to get him to settle. In retrospect maybe they should have allowed for a longer warm-up but he often goes off the boil if they do that so who knows. Went into the arena in a bit of a tizzwozz (scared of the horse in the next arena - big girl's blouse - I told him afterwards, the only thing you need to be frightened of young man is Rosie! *disclaimer: this is a joke* ).

Anyway, not the best test he's ever done although on looking at the video afterwards those who know about these things thought 42.5 was a little harsh - he was naughty though. Rosie was understandably a bit miffed with him, especially after his brilliant tests just 2 days earlier.

He redeemed himself completely by showjumping clear and they both set off XC with big smiles on their faces. Rosie has lost the ability to judge the time, something she was very good at before, and was afraid of going too fast but ended up with 3.2 pens. Clear though and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. He was hardly panting when he came back so the fact they've been unable to do any canter work at home wasn't a problem after all. Unfortunately he lost a shoe somewhere so farrier tomorrow and she had to go and buy some more studs

So unplaced but a good time had by all in the sunshine and Poplar to look forward to next week, ON so she can wear a watch, hurrah. We also managed to spread the word that we're looking for a reasonably priced youngster and now have a few people on the case for us. Lots of catching up with friends and everyone delighted to see Rosie back eventing too.

A bit of video if you can be bothered to watch here and some left over picnic washed down with a glass of red (I know it's early but it's Sunday) and thanks for reading if you have

I think lots of horses there yesterday were a bit lit up by the occasion. I'm sure he will be more settled next week. It is quite hard for them to concentrate when they can see horses going xc behind them while they are warming up.

I did walk past Rosie when she was walking towards dressage looking very calm at that point! Hopefully see you next week at Poplar!

IME they are always wild at Isleham

Onwards and upwards - look forward to the next report!

she is amazing. Tell her well done from me, and dressage judge just needed to go to specksavers

The horse hunting is very dispiriting to be honest. They've looked at eight or nine which doesn't sound like many but some of them have been a long way away - one last week was a good 2 hours each way and when they got there it was so not what they'd expected from the ad (and not what they wanted) she didn't even ride it. What we want is a 4/5 year old, broken in and going nicely with a bit of a jump in it for not too much money. We're looking at 4/5K or less and a little bit special. Most have been ordinary and over-priced at best or at worst, unsound or so badly put together you wonder what the owners were looking at when they advertised them. Sorry, rant over

Thank you for your kind words everyone, she was disappointed and it would have been a dream come true if she'd been placed but there's a whole season ahead of her. On Thursday we're celebrating the end of the most terrible year I could ever have imagined and from now on everything is a bonus

well done Rosie and Bertie the sj looked very muddy (feel sorry for organisers as the xc clip looked good) so to get a double clear was fab onwards and upwards for Rosiefan and team in 2010

PS i know of a nice 5yo thats back on the market as buyer dropped out after it passed a vetting but its not full TB so not sure if it suits your bill?

Thanks for the tip-off Langside. Phoebe B. has recommended one in York and when/if they can organise a trip up there (difficult with them all having day jobs and R's brother to be picked up/dropped back at college every weekend) I'll pm for details - it would be good to have 2 to see while they're there.

Very nice, thank you. I've sent the link to R just so she can look. It's good to see what is actually available at various different prices and he certainly looks as if he's worth the money (unlike some

Thank you Kat and everyone else
