Left the yard a few minutes before 8 and arrived at Isleham just in time to be directed to park right infront of the SJ arena so sat in the cab watching that while Rosie walked the course. Bertie seemed fairly calm but pricked his ears up and had a good look round when he came off the lorry for Rosie to do the studs. Pottered over to the dressage in good time to warm up but there were an awful lot of horses milling about and he decided he was scared of them and started shying and skipping sideways whenever one came towards him. Rosie and her Mum went right away from them and tried to get him to settle. In retrospect maybe they should have allowed for a longer warm-up but he often goes off the boil if they do that so who knows. Went into the arena in a bit of a tizzwozz (scared of the horse in the next arena - big girl's blouse - I told him afterwards, the only thing you need to be frightened of young man is Rosie! *disclaimer: this is a joke* ).
Anyway, not the best test he's ever done although on looking at the video afterwards those who know about these things thought 42.5 was a little harsh - he was naughty though. Rosie was understandably a bit miffed with him, especially after his brilliant tests just 2 days earlier.
He redeemed himself completely by showjumping clear and they both set off XC with big smiles on their faces. Rosie has lost the ability to judge the time, something she was very good at before, and was afraid of going too fast but ended up with 3.2 pens. Clear though and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. He was hardly panting when he came back so the fact they've been unable to do any canter work at home wasn't a problem after all. Unfortunately he lost a shoe somewhere so farrier tomorrow and she had to go and buy some more studs
So unplaced but a good time had by all in the sunshine and Poplar to look forward to next week, ON so she can wear a watch, hurrah. We also managed to spread the word that we're looking for a reasonably priced youngster and now have a few people on the case for us. Lots of catching up with friends and everyone delighted to see Rosie back eventing too.
A bit of video if you can be bothered to watch here and some left over picnic washed down with a glass of red (I know it's early but it's Sunday) and thanks for reading if you have
