I bought a little4 y.o. sec A pony a couple of years back (for all the wrong reasons but we won't go into those now) and he's been a companion ever since. Tried to loan him out last year but no success. So I decided in the Autumn that in the new year I'd break him in to harness as there is no way I could ride him (I'm too heavy).
So today I started... (Yes I know it's feb but I was in hospital over Christmas so my life's been on hold). I took him in the school and popped him on the lunge and after about 2 minutes of haring round like a nutter he started to trot nicely. I gave a few voice commands and he walked, trotted and cantered from my voice... So I thought I'd have a play with introducing long reins. The second I put the second line on I knew he'd done this before. Off we went round the school... It was great to see his memory come back and he started to work thru' and walked and trotted as instructed... We did trotting poles and circles and serpentines... He's a little star!
I thought he was basically unbroken but it turns out that he's definitely done something somewhere... not quite as straight out of the field as I thought!
Happy days.
