ISO a winter riding coat in a bright colour

seen lots of lovely ones, all in navy! Anyone know of a nice thick warm winter coat which is waterproof, covers the rear end, is in a nice bright colour like red or turquoise. Would possibly consider a high vis option if it’s good quality and not too bulky.

Weatherbeeta are doing a heavy weight, hi viz coat, I returned the one I ordered as I found it a bit Short over my backside even though it’s not a bum freezer style.
I have just bought the new Decathlon winter coat which is navy-I have hi viz waterproofs and a tabard. I am impressed with Decathlon jackets (I have a summer and another winter one).
Kramer and Horze may have some brighter ones.

Yes they do look like they have the tailoring of a large potato sack, but I guess if you are warm and dry then it doesn't really matter. The size guide does say that if you want a more normal coat fit, to buy the smallest size for your height.
 
I’ve just bought a Weatherbeeta Tania in burgundy, which is lovely, but it’s not cold enough to wear it yet. A friend has one in black and really rates it for being warm and waterproof.

This is very true! On a day like today I think “eugh unflattering” however mid winter, p’ing down with rain who cares ?

Years ago I bought a hi viz winter work coat from a similar place. It's got really thick fleece lining and elasticated cuffs at the wrists. It keeps even the worst of the British winter weather out and only cost me £35.

I was recently in a Mole Country store and saw a winter coat in the equestrian section that was just outside my budget. I saw almost exactly the same coat in the farmer section £20 cheaper!
 
I always wear hi-viz, whatever I'm doing, either with Mr H, or on the water. Mr H wears a minimum of a hi-viz neckstrap and brushing boots in the school, or riding on our land. Hi-viz quarter sheet, boots, tail guard and IN CASE OF EMERGENCY Velcro envelopes attached to me/saddle D rings when off our land. Such precautions enable the emergency services to locate either/both of us, should we part company.
 
I would suggest that you look for a good quality breathable waterproof long enough to cover your bum and don't worry about warmth. It will be plenty warm enough for three seasons, and for winter add an insulated (down or synthetic equivalent) gilet or jacket.

I love my Paramo coat, I wear it almost everyday, only ditching it in very warm weather. It is fully waterproof despite being at least 10 years old. For this time of year it is great with just a shirt underneath but in December I will have an insulated but not properly waterproof coat underneath.

Horse people are perpetually disappointed by coats but there are some brilliant coats out there if you look outside equestrian brands and look into what is going on in the world of outdoor clothing for hiking and mountaineering especially.

I've had it for about 3 years now and its remained warm and waterproof all the way through. That includes washing. The cuffs aren't quite as bright yellow as they used to be but I still love it.

Bright enough to be unofficial high viz so I feel safer around the farm ride and walking around fields and paddocks alone (both horse and I wear actual high viz when heading out on the roads).

Easily my favourite winter coat.

ETA: does anyone know if Musto still do an equestrian range?

After being bought out by Helly Hansen it's a big fat nope.


OP, I have an older Musto training jacket in bright pink. With yellow high viz you look like a fruit salad but worth it! Might be worth googling/searching ebay for it.
