Has anyone had any issues with their horses when feeding molasses? I have moved to a feed that contains it but I have always avoided sugary feeds in the past.

After all the problems my last horse had when he was on it i now steer well clear!!

He had something similar to EPSM though but even though my new horse hasn't got it i wont touch anything with Molasses or sugar to be on the safe side

I never feed anything with molasses - I feed unmolassed chaff and unmolassed sugarbeet. Molasses is only added to feed to make it more palatable for horses, it can certainly hype some horses up - best avoided.

In winter when my horse was having more feed she was getting very hyper, thing was that she tended to loose weight in winter so needed the extra feed. Old owner put it down to sugar beet. We tried cutting out mollasses - hey presto, never had a problem since. We use simple systems - no mollases or extras ingredients in any of there products. I go by the theory that horses should eat what nature intended so avoid all mollases, grains and cereals.

My Tb is sugar intollerent - something that appears in many more horses than you would think, apparently - so we avoid mollased anything with him.

I have cut molasses out whereever I can. Calm and Condition and alfa-a oil for mine. She gets even more crabby if she has molasses in her diet and as it's only put in as an enticement I have weaned her off it.
