Ok, I have my first walk and trot test next Sunday at Moreton.

I have got myself in a panic over whether I have learned the right test! It is Pony Club D Level 1 which is a walk and trot. I just have developed this overwhelming paranoia that I might have downloaded the wrong test

I also have never saluted! What do I do? All the instructions I have found say to put the reins and whip in the same hand, but I didn't think I was allowed a whip!?.

One last question though, would it be awful of me not to plait? Mare is fidgety to plait and add that to my nerves and I don't think it will be the chilled preparation I was hoping for!

Does anyone have any tips for dressage newbies? I don't mind how obvious or simple they are!

At the moment I am thinking a large G & T might be the best bet!

not sure about the test, i cant download it :@

when i do prelim dressage, i never plait up... nothing is ever said about it.

saluting...

stand, immobility (count to 3, relax, nice breath) salute... keep reins and whip in one hand.

whips restrictions are based on the length of it....

have a look at that, i guess it will give you all the rules etc of that
im not much help, i dont really do dressage lol

other than that... have a great time and enjoy yourself, tell us how it goes...

Hi !!

Id double check about the test...there are so many floating about that different centres have made up themselves. If it says it is that pony club test then you should be fine (ring the centre if theres a tiny bit of doubt!)

For the salute Halt for a second or two make sure horse is stood quietly, put your reins into either right or left hand (i use my left) place your other hand to your side and bow your head, look back up pick up you reins in both hands and big smiles!!!

You dont really have to plait, it would be good if you could, if not, be turned out very smartly as it will show the judge youve made an effort and will show you and your horse off at your best

As for advice use your strong movements to gain the best marks e.g. if your horse does a great free walk show it off! Dont be nervous, take a deep breath and enjoy it. The best thing is that it is your first so it is a starting point and will show your best points and some you need to work on.

Have a great day and really good luck!! x x x

Seriously, I had my first dressage test today, and the only advice I can give is to relax and enjoy it!! I really didnt think we would make it round the test without running around the arena, but we did and we enjoyed it!
P.S I didn't plait either.
have fun with it

I did pony club D level 1 as my first dressage test ever a few weeks ago, it is walk and trot and not too scary!! You are allowed a whip (well - I used one

) Just remember to smile and enjoy it, I was terrified but when I'd finished I couldn't stop grinning

Good luck!

Fabulous! That has put my mind at rest! I have hired a school tomorrow so hopefully we'll both be happier after that.

Were you up there a couple of Sundays ago? I think you may have been working in while my friend did her test.

Be really nice to meet you!
