Isuzu Horsebox - anyone got one? Or know about them?

As per title, any info gratefully received as I know nothing about Isuzu lorries except that they are lighter.
Would I have trouble getting it repaired/serviced etc?

Is it one of the N series? They are fab trucks we used to use them for our gardening business, very reliable, they are a bit lighter but I think you can have any weight up to 7.5 tonne on the newer ones. We had a 3.5 and a 6.2t.
The low gears (1 and 2) are very low which can make the ride a little jumpy when getting used to.

It's def a newer one, 7.5T
It's an auto, which is another thing I have no experience of in a lorry, although it does appeal to me - I can do my make-up on the way to events :D

The ones I have seen look narrower than other horseboxes. I would ask what width it is, if you've got a long horse it might not fit.
 
Thanks DD - apparently 7'8 but I will double check that.
I think my current one is 7'6 (they go herringbone) so that should be ok if it's correct.

I sometimes work on them they seem ok however im not that impressed with the cabs they are small and not that nice,seats and access and because its narrow if you have a wide box on the back its not so easy to see round with the mirrors when backing the ones ive fixed are cokecola trucks with a curtain sider body and
they get some hammer and seem to stand up to it so I would say if you can get on with it then you should be fine but if you want the nicest cab and possibly the best small truck on the road its between the MAN TGL or a Daf LF.. oh and servicing should be ok just check your garrage is happy to service one or find out if you have a main agent close as a alot of comercial mecanics dont like them!!! and some of the parts are pricey even things like filters...

Thanks perfect11s, very helpful. Will make sure I get a thorough drive then (including reversing!) and also if I liked it I was planning to call the people I use to service etc, so will def do that too.

We had our 'new' MAN chassis of a client of my dads who has swapped to Isuzu due to extra payload - he's a coal merchant- he really rates them.

OH works in print and one of their paper companies swapped to Isuzus (again for payload increase) and their driver told OH they're nice to drive and go well but all of their auto ones has had to have a new gearbox (less than 2yo at the time)
 
I used to have a fleet of 15 Isuzu trucks , in fact we had the very first 7.5 ton one in the country. They make great horse boxes and are lighter, and drive like a car. they dont have air brakes so are better for the ladies to drive and are easy to maintain.
I would go for it by far better than most on the market.
 
Hi Jul - We had an Isuzu 7.5 ton lorry converted by Davenports - Loved it to bits until it was stolen a year ago - It was very easy for idiotic women to drive - only negative would be that it seemed to roll a bit more than the wider trucks when its was windy - the wind just seemed to catch us more so we had to drive a bit slower when windy than we did in the lorry we bought after the theft. Ours was manual so can't comment on automatic gearbox. Good luck!

miller - if the autos had to have a new gearbox in under 2 yrs then they presumably did them under warranty? That's definitely something to think about though, I'll look into cost.

jacky - hmm, that puts me off a bit, I hate driving the lorry in the wind anyway. Again something to think about, hopefully it'll be windy when I drive it. Sorry to hear yours was stolen :(
