It bit me

For no reason, with no warning, never having bit anyone before, my ungrateful, untrustworthy chestnut mare decided to sink her teeth into my hand! The cow! Despite my horrific hangover, and only having an hours sleep, there I was at six in the morning, in my fluffy slippers, elbow deep in sugar beet and what thanks do I get? The witch bites me! Miserable, deceitful, conniving...

Now my thumb hurts and I was too shocked to react so she completely got away with it. And I'm sure she was laughing at me.

Why would she bite? I haven't ridden her in 4 days because of an abscess, but it seems a bit unreasonable to attempt to remove your owner's thumb out of boredom... Was she just being nasty?

I know what you mean about gratitude..... I rescued a baby blackbird yesterday, from the jaws of death..... my schnauzer.....

The bloody thing bit me too...... mind you it didnt really hurt

I love chestnut mare's they can be so fickle. I wouldn't worry about her 'getting away with it' I'm sure she'll give you a few years to lull you into a falso sense of security then go for the other thumb

my chestnut mare has monthly attacks at my bottom, just when you think it's safe she gets a swift nip in!

Aw, I'm feeling totally the other way around today. I was walking over to the other field this morning and Brandy actually deigned (seriously, this is a rare privilege) to walk up to the fence-line to nosy at what I was doing, and I was so chuffed that I walked over to give her a scratch. Just as she reached her head out (on the hunt for food) and I leaned over, she brushed the top line of electric tape that runs over the fence with her chin and ZAP! The poor little beast ran off down the field squealing and shaking her head, so I walked all the way back, climbed over the gate and traipsed after her, and when I got within ten feet and held out my hand, she squealed and charged off again. She thinks I punched her in the nose.

She'll probably never deign to come over and see what I'm doing ever again.

lol I bet she just thought your thumb was a carrot - that's always Henry's excuse!!

As an aside (and a highjack!) where in CT are you from? I've ridden along Noordhoek beach, it was just beautiful! I was on a speed freak of a huge bay TB - loved it!!
