Well Northumberland County Show has been cancelled even though its nowhere near the affected area.

There is a national ban on animal movement though, so no livestock would have got there, don't see what else they could do

I know, but it also has 2 days of show-jumping on too and a lot of in hand showing classes too so I thought I would mention it in case anyone was planning on going.

news said it is in Elstead, but it it air born so can travel any where...

i'm pretty sure its ability to travel airborne is very limited - generally fluids are needed for spreading it.

Came across the hogs back A31 and saw helicoptors floating over the closed area and heard them all morning while mucking out........so I have been told Virkon is the only disinfectant for the job and Jeyes or Battles Black Disinfectant is no good!

wer'e taking precautions in west sussex nr chichester, straw mats are down and i for one will not be going showing tomorrow, as we have cattle and sheep next to yard, and i'm not selfish enough to put someone's livlihood at risk for the sake of a show.

It travels further over sea than land, France is worried cos thats the way the wind is going and they are checking animals now

Good for you lilym, wish more people did the same. I'm not going anywhere with my horses, and I'm in NI - just because the confirmed outbreak is in Surrey doesn't mean it won't have already been spread elsewhere. Doesn't anyone remember 2001?!

Exactly Rowreach, at the moment they haven't a clue where its going to rear its head. I cannot believe some poeple's attitude. We have one person from our yard that is insisting on still going to Cranleigh Show which is near Guildford!

Praps you, me and mfh should start a campaign. Last time (I was in Hants then) I banned all my owners from moving their horses straight away, and closed the right of way that went over my land too. I was about a week ahead of Defra that time. Don't regret it, and it's not overreacting imo.

I will be speaking to my dad about the whole issue today so we get disinfectant down asap, I have already stopped hacking out and I am in Yorkshire so a fair while off the current affected site!

Nor me!

I have decided to not compete tomorrow. It just isn't worth it. Much better to sit tight for a week or two and make sure it has gone.

If I remember rightly last time it Devon then it was Cumbria then somewhere else all within days.

I'm sitting tight. My horsey events aren't that important in the whole scheme of things.

Cranleigh Show have cancelled all there sheep pigs cattle classes etc and are urging equestrian entries to still take part. I feel that this is an ample precaution to take and will still be going with my horse, I have spoken to my YM and he is happy for me to go.

Well, Im up in Scotland and Im still planning to move my horses about as usual. If I was planning to compete this weekend then I still would have done. We have a big county show tomorrow and Monday - all horses are going ahead and I believe everyone will turn up as usual. I am eventing next weekend and will certainly be taking part.

DEFRA are the professionals here, if they believe its ok to move horses about outwith the zone then I assume it is safe. If not, then its them to blame. How can some of you be saying its selfish to move horses just now when we're perfectly within our rights to do so. I think we should just do what DEFRA say.

Rowreach - Are you actually legally allowed to close the right of way which goes through your land? I didnt think anyone other than the council etc. could do that.

Will people already be taking such precautions outside the exclusion zones I wonder.
