Both Chester and Tex are wildly shivering atm and it is mid August for Pete's sake! They are usually covered in sweat about now!

Chester NEVER shivers (tough Wisconsin horse) but he sure is today!

Now I have seen it all

I almost feel sorry for them

They have a large shelter and will not go in it

I suppose I should not pity them too much. They do have a choice

I have always heard they stay warmer moving feely anyhow.
They can cope well with winter coats but they obviously are not equipped for cold in August in Wisconsin

It's been cooler here this last week too Jade. Still t-shirt and shorts weather but distinctly cooler nonetheless. Supposed to get hotter tomorrow and then stay hot for some time. I must say though this has been a peculiar summer.

I have felt winter for two days now Tia. Very odd for August. It was just a massive heat wave last week. I have to agree that this has been one odd summer!

We went for a drought to this???

I really feel for the people here with late foals . Although some say it makes them tougher in the end

Hope your little baby stays warm and toasty!

What sort of temperatures are you talking about? It's been 25 degrees Celsuis here, around 75 degrees fahrenheit, during the day.....and then about 15 C (60 F) overnight. Much much colder than normal but it sounds like it's colder where you are?

Yes it was absolutely boiling here last week too. If you are having the same weather pattern as us here then you can look forward to it getting hot again this coming week.

Little foaly has grown today!! She has been galloping around and stretching those oh so long legs! Legacy has been playing with her and that's lovely to watch.

It's all very strange. I don't usually rug until October, but my boy has his lightweight on already. My welsh girl, that I never rug started to grow her winter coat a while back, then we had the mini heatwave and it came off in handfulls !
At least lightly rugging my boy in the worst weather will stop him getting his winter woolies, only to have to shed then in the next heatwave.
Its all just extra bother, when summer is supposed to be easy for us !

LOL! Thistle! Hope it did not rain! I have been putting my rain sheet on my boy as we had quite a wind and with the rain I know he would be cold. He has been in his field stable more too so I guess he gets fed up in the rain and goes to munch hay!

My horses are getting their winter coats already. Can't beleive it. Looks like I'll have to clip my arab if I want to compete her next month.

My mare has only had a handful of nights so far this summer without a rug, its ridiculous, the nights are so cold, I think the warmest its been overnight is 10c

Tara was shivering today when she was out in the field without her rug poor thing, she is now cuddled up with a rug in her stable. rediculous..!

Neddy has had his rug back on this last week as he shivvers at the thought of rain!
though sometimes i think hes putting it on. He seems quite happy in the field in the rain then as soon as i bring him in the stable he nearly falls over he shivers that much!

It wouldnt be too bad if it was just the rain but its sooo cold too!

Trees are turning here and my horse is already starting to get furry. I kept optimistic through July saying we'ld get a fine August/September. Have now given up.

mine are getting winter fluff too, and most of the horses are hanging around close to the gate in case anyone should want to bring them in
