but today is one of those days
mad.gif

I've just done my usual mad lunchtime dash home to let them out, to find one of them had pooed inside already
mad.gif
Not because they hadnt been out this morning - they had access to the garden for a good hour altogether this morning - but because I hadnt taken them for a walkie this morning at the yard as they like (didnt have time as was doing my friends horses too)

Then they decided to have a mad hurtle around the (muddy) garden like idiots, then both came screaming back into the house. Mud all over the kitchen floor and - more irritatingly - all over the living room carpet. Which is already stained from Flick peeing on it three times so far (in the same spot) because I cant get her out of the habit of peeing as SOON as she wakes up. I shall hire a carpet cleaner this weekend, but I am not hopeful that it will get the stain out

Then Flick jumped up at me (she still does this despite my best efforts to train her not to) and got mud all over my work trousers.

Pointless rant I know, but AAAAARGGGHHHH!!!!

Lol...I feel your pain

....my boarders at the minute...are a pain in the arse

If u cannot keep her wee in, it might be worth sectioning her in a smaller space at night.......this is very common in dogs thats are not 100% house trained, to pee first thing, esp if no one is watching, one of my rescues would pee first thing, if he was in the kitchen, but not if he was crated or I had him at work in duty room, he would keep it in for aslong as he was in my sight or in his crate..........maybe a baby gate or crate, to teach her to keep her urine in or longer, then discard of the aid, and see how she goes............she is very young, and would guess, she has been in a kennel all her life.

Re the jumping.......turn your back, or give her a little knee in the chest.............I know u are prob doing this........but it looks like in helping u, and your stinking mood today

Thanks Cala, I have cheered up now

I thought today that I might try going back to crating her at night for a while, just to get her out of the habit - at least then she will howl and wake me up

Thanks for the advice though - plus with the jumping up thing - I bow to your expert knowledge

My labrador has just started chewing my sofa and nothing i do seems to stop him!! Thank goodness it's an old chintzy one we were given when we moved in. Every time i pop home for lunch i find bits of soggy chewed fabric plastered round the living room
mad.gif

Little bugger...but i do love him

LOL Yipster that just about sums up how I feel
grin.gif
It is so lovely to have such an enthusiastic welcome from both of them when I get home, but just sometimes...well, really....

Mine opened Christmas pressies for us while we were out on Christmas Eve! Not theirs but ours. I blamed Sage but then found Dexter walking around with a bag in his mouth on Christmas Day!! Matty was a good girl of course as befits her age and upbringing...she is RR, thery are rotties!!

I knew I was right!!! I did this to my friends dog last week as he doesn't just jump up he hurls himself at me and I was really hacked off with it, so I put my knee up as he jumped and he yelped like I'd hit him. I got a very frosty look from my friend but the dog did it again straight away so I put my knee up again.......and he yelped again. She said 'what did you do to him' very crossly and I said 'nothing, just put my knee up and if he doesn't like it then he won't throw himself at me again will he!'.

We have kind of fallen out over it but I won't put up with it from mine and it annoys me that she's not bothered that he's so uncontrolled. The daft thing is that he's a very well trained agility dog and can do some impressive things, but she's forgotton all the basics

ootp your friend is totally out of order. We have to mind our manners and dogs should too. I stop mine barking too much (unless I don't like the person walking past the house hehe) and for sure they can't jump up. They are way too big anyway and would knock a smaller, lighter person over, (not me obviously)!! Good for you for sticking to your guns.

I, too, feel your pain,

Mine was an absolute star with a houseful of people all Xmas, but apparently he got the impression it was All About The Dog. He was mad this morning on his walk, begging and trying to jump on me, which he never does, and when I left him in the car at work - where he stays every day without complaint (at least since he was a puppy) for a few hours while I'm riding - he unpacked the box I keep in the back, ripped up everything rippable, chewed everything chewable, and strew it all over the car. At least he didn't touch the tack - I suspect he knows that might be a line!

Now he's bouncing around the house, wondering where his in house entertainment squad has gone.

Roll on New Years and back to normality.

The crate is being used tonight, so please expect a crotchety post tomorrow complaining that Flick howled all night
tongue.gif
I am also using the knee technique which seems effective so far, it is debatable how long it will take the silly dog to learn mind you

I wish I could take a picture without moving, Flick is asleep on the sofa next to me looking absolutely angelic but as soon as I get up she will leap to her feet. I know the truth about you though, little angelic one

Glad it's not just me thinking that kneeing the dog was OK! My dogs are so good compared to hers yet she's always telling me they need 'training'.........not sure what that means exactly as they do all I want them to do. Hers can spin in circles at command but that's not terribly useful in everyday life

Believe me the thought had occured! A few weeks ago we met in the fields and her mental collie launched himself at me and covered me in mud. I was livid but she just chuckled slightly and ignored it. If it had been my dog I'd be mortified and so apologetic. I wanted to get a couple of handfuls of the slime he covered me in and chuck it at her.

Note to self ...........must get new friends in 2009

What are people thinking when they're okay with their dogs doing this? There are two Viszlas on our local common who will literally climb up the front of you, clawing and slobbering. They did it to me this morning and I pushed them away - not even close to the deserved knee - and the woman glared at me like I'd somehow caused the assault.

I should indeed have run at her, planting my size 10 Hunters firmly on her overdressed for dog walking ensemble. Except she'd likely knee me.
