This morning had a bit of bad news. YO is increasing my rent, mainly due to hay and straw prices.
Last year I looked after hers which meant keeping my prices down to summer rent, but looking after 5 horses and working 9-5 near on killed me!

So, the time has come when I have to sell Snoopy. I actually feel really sick at the prospect, but I cannot afford to keep 3 horses and apart from having Bertie put down (which isnt an option) I have no other options.

So if anyone is interested in a 16h, 5 year old, by Polansky placed at PN level working at Elementary dressage and good to do let me know.

BBs is now going off to cry.

Oh no, if I had loads of spare money I would send you some so you could keep him

Parents are going to be that easy.
Bertie owes me nothing, so the simple answer would be to put him out in a field with a big rug - but they wont let me do that.
Winston is now fully sound with his magnet so i can ride him and dressage him.
Snoopy is such a dude tho, and awesome to ride. I actually feel really sick now. Gutted isnt the word.

Could you look round for a cheeper yard? One without a horse walker and school as those facilities must put the price up.

Just a thought.

Hugs though finances are a sod and we have to do these tought things sometimes.

You've given Snoops a fanatstic start and I'm sure he'll find a good home because of that.

Thanks.
No the facilities arnt all that. The old yard we had an indoor school and turn out 365 days a year for the same price.

Although hes opionated he is a smashing horse and loves ppl. He makes me giggle every time i see him.

I hate being broke.

What I don't get is if your parents want final say in the horses then why don't they pay their upkeep. Surely if you are the one that is paying for the horses then you make the decisions about whether to keep/sell/loan/put in field !

Oh no! What a shame for you..really hope you can work something out to keep him, he sounds like hes going to be such a star
frown.gif
Can you look into sharing/loaning?
Fingers crossed for you that it can be worked out..

Mum pays for berties livery.
With paying off the loan for snoop etc I cannot afford livery too.
Another livery would be great, but that means doing 4 horses again with a full time job which would be knackering!
Teaching is going wel, but it needs to be more often.

Loaning snoopy is NOT an option, he is, after all my savings account. If hes going to damage himself i would rather it was with me and not someone loaning him.
I wil speak to parents later as a forum member has given me another option.

How much extra are you talking about? If I was you I would sell snoopy, buy something cheaper and use the difference to pay the extra livery. Very easily said when I'm not involved emotionally. Isn't real life crap.

How about having a price without hay and bedding as it hasn't actually gone up at all - well not here anyway, and buying your own in?

Thanks DD
TBH YO wouldnt be too happy if i tried to buy in my own hay and straw.
It was on the understanding if i went there you see.

If i sell him, I wont be buying another, i just cant do it, i get too attached.

Hi vix - I'm so sorry for you

You've put a lot of effort into Snoops and he's proving himself to be really talented - it would be such a shame to sell him - couldn't you give up drinking/smoking/shopping (delete as appropriate) I gave up smoking and saved up enough to buy another horse when M said we couldn't afford another - it soon mounted up!
good luck

I dont smoke, havent smoked since January. Rarely drink, have been shopping lately but that wont make much odds to this.
I basically live to the maximum of my wages lol
Hey ho.
If i could teach reguarly that would pay for my hay and straw - but then i have 2 fit horses ready for competition but cant afford to compete them.
Bloody waste of time having them isnt it

Car cost me less a month than my 3 horses livery bill a week will cost me.

Nope, I have nothing, thats why snoopy is my savings account on legs.

Will discuss with parents tonight, but not really worth keeping him if i cant afford to do anything with him or winston and cant afford to see my friends occasionally.

Sucks doesn't it! I'm just selling my lovely 16.2 chestnut alround fun horse so I can finance the training of my dressage horses. Having to send Rupert away to be sold as can't be objective about selling him myself, much too attached! Must win lottery quickly. Or marry a very rich man!

Archie is my savings account on legs too

Its rubbish isnt it

I know how you feel being permenantly skint - luckily ive had a nice payrise at work (due to me slogging my guts out to try and complete my open university course - which i still havent finished) - so im hoping to get my credit card cleared off by the end of January *fingers crossed*..... I dont use it, but when i brought Archie he had nothing, so i wacked it all on a credit card and it just kept mounting up

Damn things

I'm going to put a slightly different slant on this and make no apology if it sounds harsh...

You bought Snoopy to sell on and make some money on. He has exceeded all expectations with you this year and will no doubt turn you a nice profit. Sell him now...there is no point in keeping too many over the winter...and then buy another good project come the spring and do it all again.

The only sure fire thing with horses as they get older is that they depreciate in value. At 5 or 6 you will probably get the maximum price for him now.

I think it was the Whitakers who said 'Nobody ever got rich retiring horses...'
