After giving up riding over 8 years ago, I decided to get back in the saddle last month. I forgot how much horses can effect you. I have now decided that the only thing I can do is start saving for one of my own now.
Having been 'off the scene' for a while I was just wondering how much I should expect to pay for one. I'm not really bothered about competing, maybe a local show or two, mainly for hacking out and school work. I'm not the worlds most refined rider, but I do have big balls (or so I'm told), and great sticking power, I used to love XC. I wouldn't really want anything that's too much of a handful though as my daughter would probably like to ride it at some point too in the future (she's 8 at the mo, but really tall for her age).
I'd prefer one that could be out 24/7, to keep costs down a bit, and one thats not too old, perhaps 10-12 yrs.
Any size from 14.2 up would be fine, I'm only 5'4" and weigh usually 8 1/2 stone.
I've tried looking for a share, or loan horse, but there just doesn't seem to be anything close to me.

If any of you could help give me a good guesstimate, I would really appreciate it.

<font color="green">Also (cheeky) any donations to the fund would be greatfully accepted. Ha Ha.

Go for a native or a native X.

£2,500 would be the max I would pay.

Cant help you with your fund, I have a fund of my own!

Hence the reason I wanted one who could live out. I have friend who will rent me a field, I just have to build a shelter, but do I have lots of people who can help me with that too.
I do quite like the highland ponies, not sure what size they go to, maybe a highland cross?
I'm probably gonna have to wait a year or two though before I buy, got two largeish loans to pay off first, then I will be in a Muuuch better financial position for the general up keep. Saying that though, in the past I found, that it didn't matter how much things cost, you always find the cash from somewhere.

I've got an irish cob, 14.2, im 5'4 and about 8 stone(pretty similar) when i got her she had quite a bit of experience jumping away at shows, would hack on busy roads, schooling wasnt great but she had been in a field at the dealers for 2 weeks, apart from being a little bit fast on hacks(she wears a gag and is almost controlable lol) and trying to roll if you ride her the day/ day after she's been clipped she is brill.. payed £2.5k for her as a 7yr old... this was 5 years ago though lol
