Hi! Don't think I've ever posted in here, anyway. Does anybody know of any reputable (sp) Italian Greyhound breeders or even some ones to avoid (pm if poss) etc.

Thank you in advance

Why not get a whippet, Italian Greyhounds always look a bit weedy to me. If you like small whippets, go for a whippet bred specifically to race, they are often smaller than a coursing or show type whippets.

This isn't for me - its for my mother, she is also looking at whippets too, but at the moment has her heart set on a Italian Greyhound. She likes the 'little' thing!

Italians are very nice BUT v expensive indeed and have a well deserved reputation for breaking those fragile little legs. I too would consider a small whippet.

There's a woman near us that breed then - she refused to sell me one because my lifestyle would be too traumatic on it

Why breed a dog that isn't strong enough to live like a dog?

Don't know if you need them, but since I don't know of any breeders,

Official KC Breed Club since 1900. Promote breed, protect standard.Rescue, news, events, health, show results, information, contacts, photos, history http://www.theitaliangreyhoundclub.co.uk/

The United Kingdom Italian Greyhound Society - Informative site in the breed including health and welfare show results news merchandise. memebership details NO puppy sales on this site. http://www159.pair.com/iguksoc/

Found this info on the site above "The long, fine, slender bone of the Italian Greyhound gives the breed an increased predisposition to limb fractures, compared with a breed of more substantial bone. It is therefore inevitable that in this breed fractures do occasionally occur. This does NOT IN ANY WAY mean that it is normal for an Italian Greyhound to fracture a leg; rather the possibility is greater due to the fine skeleton.
If a fracture is to occur then it is most common between the ages of 4 and 12 months."

OMG. How rude! I'm wondering the same!

Italians are lovely little things, but also very, very active, hench the risk of breaking its legs. Please consider a whippet, they have more better bone, not to say it won't happen but at least there is less risks.

I would not hesitate to recommend a Whippet as a pet - they are the best dogs in the world! My little girl is nearly 6 and, considering I wasn't a dog lover before I got her, I think the world of her and the breed as a whole - they are great....and much nicer than Italian Greyhounds (sorry all you IG fans out there!)
