Itch supplements that work...

Can anyone recommend a supplement for itching that really helps?? Not expecting a miracle cure but SI pony could do with some extra help

I agree with Gloi. The only way to effectively stop the itch is to proactively prevent the itch/scratch cycle from taking hold. Good quality sweet itch hoodies, masks and a topical lotion for the bits you can’t cover. I’ve found 25% Benzyl Benzoate in an aqueous lotion to be hugely successful. It’s easy to apply, non-greasy and very economical in comparison to products like BiteBack which I’ve heard is very good too. There are hundreds of remedies out there which owners will swear by but it would take months or years to trial even a fraction of them.

Are anyone else’s SI horses really suffering at the moment?!

Today it rained all day and is the first day she didn’t itch much at all.. the last few days have been awful! The worst she has ever been

I use the HerdLeader Summer Itch Relief. My mare has been on it since I bought her, so God knows if it actually does anything but their website says this:

"Nicotinamide, a form of Vitamin B3, has been well established in both human and veterinary medicine as a modulator of the immune system, dampening down over reaction that leads to irritation and itching caused by midge bites and grass/pollen allergies."

I have had great success with Brewers Yeast but it is not a quick fix it take time. However when it has been forgotten when horse away with rider, hey presto mane and tail gone. Happened twice ( careless I know) so I feel it does work.

mine doesn’t have sweetitch, but she is an itchy girl…the biteback sweet relief spray has worked wonders for her!

Mine’s been on the herdleader sweet itch supplement (essentially nicotinamide) since early March this year and it’s the first summer/autumn he’s had a full mane for three years. He’s barely been rugged either so (touch wood) it seems to have done the trick

I was going to recommend Biteback. Are you using the relief spray and the repellent? Where I am the temperature has really dropped tonight, so hopefully that’ll help now.

honestly a boett blanket and biteback is the best combo I’ve found by miles. I also feed brewers yeast and spirulina but hard to know if it actually makes a difference. Horrible condition

Can you try it without alfafa if it is having ity as one of mine is allergic to it. It is a recent finding with my mare.
