My hairy cob gelding keeps biting himself in 3 places on the frnt by the top of his forelegs one of his hind feet and bending himself round by the end of his belly . He did it last year too even more so i asked my yard owner for advise and she suggested i stop feeding him any carrots , i stopped and about that time he stopped scratching. He has not seen a carrot since then but has startes scratching again. he in not rugged as he gets hot and has a thick coat. Does anyone know what could be causing this. Thanks for reading.

It's probably just his winter coat coming out and irritating him. Make sure you give him a really good groom regularly to get everything out. Mine's exactly the same at the moment and rubs on anything he can get near... extremely frustrating! lol!

Does he have any bald patches anywhere? It could be lice or mites? Have a look in the base of the mane and tail and see if you can see any signs of anything living in there. Also check the places that any parasite would be likely to live such as where the hair is longest and thickest. It could simply be that he is getting too warm.Is there any possibility that you would be able to clip him?
