Itchy dog - ideas?

Yellow dog is itchy and sensitive atm but it isn't fleas, have had a skin scraping done for mites and mange but its nagative. He isn't losing hair or moulting more than usual (for a lab

) His feed hasn't changed, nothing has changed - not even our washing powder!!

Try a spot of oil (or butter if he prefers it!) in his feed or you could try sulphur tablets too. I use herbal ones from the chemist, about £5 for 100 so not going to break the bank if they don't help him. You can also get rock sulphur to put in their drinking water; both are known for helping with skin problems/itchiness, they're the only thing that helps our Ben.

It may be a food allergy? This can happen even if you dont change diet. You can try food from your vets to rule this out. If this doesn't work and your dog is still itchy it may be worth doing allergy testing which will tell you what he/she is allergic to.

He's already on food from the vets because he's missing a digestive enzyme

my dog has suffered with scratching now this time of year twice. Both times she has lost hair round her anal glands and her skin goes red all over. has been checked for fleas and was given a antihistamine injection both times which does solve the problem. she is allergic to something but neither me nor the vet can put our finger on it as there isn't any pollen about now.

Would love to know the source of that urban myth?

I feed just about 100% protein just as they would get in the wild, with no ill effects at all and have fed my dogs raw for 10 years with no itching, but then I dont boil it to death and add loads of grain to make it cheaper.

In my humble opinion grain is probably the culprit, study your pet food labels, it wont tell you much because it doesn't have too but whatever is listed first is the main ingredient and if it isn't meat then what is it?

A dog is not and never has been a grain eater, their fibre is bone, fur and feathers, they don't need it and their digestive system is not designed to cope with it.
