Fairly new dog, has beautiful coat, not got dry skin, been deflead and wormed. No sign of any fleas or flea dirt etc. but is scratching when he is indoors. We dont have the heating on at the mo. he is on food with no additives. So can only assume its house mites or something. Having had a previous dog some years ago that scratched for England and spent a fortune on vets bills to no avail, is there anything else I can try ?
I think I have read of people using Piriton for allergies in animals, is this OK to use ?

My dog uses to itch excessively, it turned out her food was too high in protein levels and making her like that! I put her on a low protein diet and now she is grand

So it could be something like that?

Check with your vet on doses for Piriton.

If it is only indoors (watch him like a hawk outside, to be sure) it could be isolated to things indoors, like, as you say, dust mites etc.
Someone here had a dog allergic to a type of carpet (Murphy's Minder, perhaps) or it could also be a cleaning product?

We has a collie years ago which did the same, we also had vet bills, Try mutton and rice, you need to add a bit of oil to it, it did work for her, it needs to be mutton, not lamb.

He is on Butchers tripe cans at the moment, 7.9%protein, dont know if thats considered high ? Might have to go on whole dry diet, although I dont like them as I think they all must taste like cardboard !
