Wondered if anyone can help.

My dogs been itching every now and again so spot on frontlined him the other night. Have checked him all over and nothing in his coat but three tiny needle head sized bald patches. And he keeps licking his legs and occasionlly shaking his head but ears are clean.

If it carries on can make an appointment with the vets but last time he had a skin problem they reccomended everythin i already had for the horse.

Possibly his food? Check for cereals, often a big trigger and consider a top quality kibble like Orijen or look for a cereal free food.

Our lab went through this, she was so bad, itched all the time and drove herself (and me!) mad with it, no fleas or midges ... the vet gave her a steroid jab, she stopped itching straight away, now - months later, she does still itch occasionally but nothing like she did!:)

certainly sounds like an allergy, the only way to find out what he is sensitive to is to run allergy tests to isolate the causes and hopefully then you can eliminate them.
One of ours is allergic to nearly everything foods, pollens, house dust mites, storage mites etc etc. The other had pinprick tests yesterday which showed she also has allergies to house dust mites. The vet said they can prepare vaccines which will help. Food allergies are best identified by elimiation of the food from the diet. It is difficult but we have found ours copes well on fish, chicken and eggs but no red meat, beef or lamb and no grains.
3rd dog will be having the tests once she is off steroids.

my dog is on 5mg of prednisone a day to control his itching ,nothing else has worked hes so allergic to everything- he was bloated and his joints and paws were oozing and raw it was horrible. hes on a chicken and rice food and will stay on this and the steroids for life.

Thanks for replies. I washed him in prescribed dog shampoo and hasnt itched again. Then realised as its been so cold he has been sleeping in the straw beds while mucking out which normally is running around.

Archiepoo- my horse suffers with allergies so know how hard it is, i have to be so careful with everything and he's on immune therapy.
