My rescue dog (Small terrier, pink skin, white hair, approx 2yrs) is constantly worried by her ears (one side in particular), and will if left unchecked scratch the back of her ear untill she draws blood. She has recently had her ears checked by the vet who could find nothing wrong (no infection or foreign bodies), she had them cleaned and suringed but it seems to have made little difference. She is regually frontlined and wormed. She is fed chappie complete and is otherwise fit and healthy and happy. Does anyone have any experience with similar problems or any thoughts or ideas at all as its driving both my dog and i mad!

I would go back to the vet if I were you. He must have missed something. My dogs have had itchy ears before and it's usually an infection, often from swimming. Dogs can also get ear mites but it's not all that common and your vet should have been able to see them through the otoscope if that was the problem.

My last dog did have an ongoing problem with her ear like you describe, and she had a constant red sore patch for a long time until she was eventually diagnosed with mange that she caught from the foxes in the garden.

Mange and mites clear up with Stronghold drops applied to the back of the neck. Frontline doesn't treat for mange. You'd have to get Stronghold from the vet anyway though, so it's definitely worth another consultation.
