My 7 year old cob gelding suffers from sweet itch in the summer and wears a Boett blanket. Now that the weather has turned colder, I have removed the Boett blanket but he is itching elsewhere now. He is biting at his shoulders and his hind legs. Someone suggested I try giving him nettles and linseed but are there any other suggestions please? He also suffers from mites occasionally.

try putting camrosa on anywhere where the fur is rubbing off
also try keeping the boett blanket on for longer until all the flies have gone
also feed pure garlic and make up a fly spary made up of
20 drops of lavender
20 drops of neem
20 drops of lemongrass
20 drops of tea tree
and 500ml of water
i do all this with my sweet itch pony and her coat is coming back really well
hope this helps!!

I have bites on my back so midges still around at the moment! I've found in the past global herbs products for sweet itch work really well, especially the cream!

Mine was incredibly itchy when I got her, had been bitten by flys several months ago & reacted badly, covered in bald patches and a really crap, scurfy coat. she itched at every opportunity.

I've put her on feedmark's Equidermis which was recommended by owners of a couple of other mild sweet itch sufferers on the yard and I can happily say there is no itching & her coat and skin condition is fantastic and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Have you changed his feed at all? I discovered my horse became very itchy when I fed him alfafa (Alpha-A) - and I have heard of many other horses suffering the same when fed alfafa.
Just a thought.
