Hi

My two ponies have been suffering from itchiness for a while now. They are both hairies and haven't shed their winter coats fully yet. Originally we thought the problem was lice as the itching got out of hand and I found some on the oldest. They have been treat with everything under the sun - powder, deosect, dermonline medicated baths, pig oil, ivermeticin wormers and they are still itching (although not as badly). Full body clips is something I don't want to resort to unless it gets desperate as they live out full time.

I'm starting to think they may have pinworm as the littlest passed this yesterday but I'm not 100% it is an actual pinworm as it was quite some size. They are 2 and 3 respectively and have always been rountinely wormed so I'm a bit lost now what to do.

Oh and heres a picture of what I found

I'm sorry no one has replied to your post and OMW what a big worm! If that has genuinely come out of one of your ponies, I'd be worried!
Have you had the vet to them?

That looks like a round worm (large strongle), common in foals and youngstock. I'd discuss with your vet and contact somewhere like westagate labs but a 5 day panacur guard may be a wise first step. Followed on by a worm count based worming program.

Re general itching, apart from infestation (worms, lice etc.) look at mineral status (decent balancer and salt) and sugar intake.
