My little grey which is with my big horse has now started itching and although never been with others they did use stable others had been in as farrier was coming so needed them in out of the mud :( and I have spotted a critter on him.

I am going to treat them all with deosect today. How often do I need to repeat the application to make sure the critters have gone?

Also mega bad news I keep all my rugs over the wall in the back of my stable so will spray the main ones that my big horse will need or may need on the next few months, but will I have to spray them all as horses wont be coming in again and they only live so long without the host don't they?

Oh my lord what a nightmare. Never had to deal with lice before :(

Any advise muchly appreciated x

I had this last year my poor lil yearling was covered, had pigeons roosting above her stable!
She had such a thick coat that I ended up clipping her as I couldn't be sure they were all gone with powders etc!
I washed everything to ensure no re infection

Pour diluted deosect ( 1/50 so 10mls deosect and top up to 500mls with water) all along the topline, part the hair where you need to so it gets to the skin. Repeat it in two weeks and you should get them all.

HTH

Or is it mites or is it moulting, mine doesnt have mites but i had to have him injected because others on the yard have mites.

Thanks for your comments, I ended up phoning the vet as my deosect had passed its date by quite a bit and wanted advice what would be best and would it still any good. I described to the vet that they were itchy and rubbed their coats in patches and that they are on their neck and shoulder area and I could actually see them. He said its almost 100% lice and off I went to buy new deosect.

Diluted the solution and manually sponged it on all 5 as 4 are Shetlands and are like wooly mammoths. Jacks rug has also been sprayed with it whilst he had it off all day.

Need to repeat in 14 days and then one further dose if necessary.

Thanks again :)
