itchy pony...

tango is really itchy, started last yr, vet said it was probably an allergy, well a yr on hes still itchy, same vet said hes hypersensative? but didnt explain. he backs into you or sides in to you all the time for a scratch, nornally all along his back. what should i do? give him a scratch or ignore him? last yr the vet put him on tablets, he was on about 150 a day.. cortisoids i think.. didnt work though.. i have bathed him again, still itchy. hes not scurfy or dirty, groomed daily..

Try giving brewers yeast and micronised linseed. I would review his feeds looking for alfalfa and preservatives especially and try and eliminate them, this may mean changing his diet completely which you may not wish to do. Just an idea. Also look at what you used to bath him and any sprays you might put on him.
I prefer to try and prevent stuff like this rather than just treat myself.

it started about the same time i put him on fast fibre last yr, took him off it but no change..
hes on happyhoof, always been on it well the 9 yrs i've had him.. and speedi beet just...he has cushings and had laminitis twice... i bathed him in head&shoulders vets recommendation. i dont use sprays hes a wimp and dont like them..lol..
he had a nasty reaction to butter cups and hoggweed this yr, in an old field, moved him away from there now.. gets nasty sun burn if i'm not carefull..
