The other day I caught Ron rubbing the inside of his thigh on his haylage box, and making the most obscenely pleasured face (he doesn't really show that he's enjoying anything like this!). When I managed to remove him from it, the hair on the inside of both thigh's is sort of scuffed, and felt a bit odd (not quite greasy, but not right either). The skin underneath felt fine. Even me running my fingers over it was enough to set him off again.

Spoke to the farrier when he was there the next day and he thought it was caused by a discharge from his boy bits, so I cleaned that, and then hibiscrubbed his legs to get anything off them. There wasn't anything unusual in or around his boy bits when I cleaned the area, and it was only done relatively recently.

That all seemed to help for a day or two. But this morning he was scratching himself on the haylage box again... totally at a loss. His skin still feels ok, the hair feels normal again just a little scuffed up.

Anyone got any ideas?

Any change to his feed? Just a thought but mine started getting really itchy, have had him 11 years and he never has been before, think it was an allergic reaction to a change of fibre nuts that had more lucerne in them, he ended up coming out in hives after a couple of weeks, back on old feed and has gone. Also the grass is very unbalanced at the moment so is different nutritionally? and mine has grown a coat that feels quite different to normal - think it is the constant change in weather from mild to freezing. Only other thought is that there are still plenty of bugs turning up during the mild moments, could be a bite/rash on its way out.... Hope you get it sorted, if only they could talk!

No changes to feed or routine at all, he is prone to itchy skin from sweat, but he's very carefully washed off after hunting or any really sweaty rides foot that reason, including between his back legs....

This morning I notice he has a patch of rain scald type scab on his belly just in front of his sheath, so maybe it's all related? I'll keep on with the hibiscrub I think....
