My 18 month old Friesian x Morgan cross is having OCD surgery in another month and I would like to know what you used after the surgery and what you needed. The receptionist isn't being very helpful about what supplies i will need, and what I am going to have to do on a daily bases. A lady I know suggested getting a hock boot to help keep the bandage on. Any other helpful suggestions would be great!

Hi,
My IDX had hock surgery for OCD two years ago. He came home with a zip 'jacket' over the dressing to help keep it in place and clean. Vet changed dressings first few days then it was left undressed to allow to heal. So I didn't need to buy anything as all went smoothly and it healed without problems. Mine needed over 3 months box rest so a few toys were needed but despite immense worry and stress from me at the time, it all went quite smoothly thankfully. Hope everything goes well.

thanks for the reply. i dont think the place im taking him to gives you a zip jacket or anything, atleast what i heard from the women i talked to who brought her horse to the same place, but i could be wrong. i know from what the receptionist said the horse should be on stall rest for 1 month, then on limited turn out, unless the horse isnt healing well. i dont think my vet will be coming and changing the bandage due to her coming to my area once a week, so i believe i will be doing it. my vet also stated that she will be coming and giving him another shot in the hock after a few weeks(not the steroid), which i believe is when she will be looking to see if the stitches need to be removed yet.
