Why should it stand still?" This is what I was told by a lady (the owner) I used to work for.
I was grooming a big horse and it was figiting. I told him to stand still, and she said "it's a horse why should it stand still".
I said because it is being groomed and should have the manners to stand still so it is safer to deal with. She said it is a big horse and I should learn to cope with him moving, I can't expect him to stand still just of me!
Needless to say I didn't stay in that job long.
Surely I was right, you can't deal with a horse that doesn't have the manners to stand still while being dealt with. It was a big horse, what if it has squished me into a wall?

every horse i deal with or take on must and will stand still to have anything done with it.

For my safety aswell as my vet, farrier, dentist the list goes on.

I also expect them to be rugged up whilst eating feed ect i dont like to fiddle with them while they are eating i hate been disturbed while im enjoying a meal but if im short of time mine will be rugged up or groom while they eat if they like it or not.

I think its just basic manners - like expecting a child not to run about all over the place when you are trying to do something. I am chuffed as I have now managed to teach my Welshie to stand still outside while I pick her hooves. We still haven't got the the grooming/tacking up outside stage yet, but we will. Can't abide horses that will not stand when you ask them too!

You are right!
For all the reasons you and everyone else have metioned above which I don't see the point in me repeating but that is what I also think.

I can't abide fidgeting, drives me mad

. Luckily Chex doesn't see the point in dancing about when he could stand still and conserve energy for being a pain while he's being ridden
