I've had Roo 19 months, when I bought her I said I would never jump. And when I tried her on a hack I made the woman walk by Roos head "just in case" and refused to even trot.
At the old yard (no arena, we rode on a patch of grass), I started hacking with another livery, going for up to 2 hours, doing canter from time to time. But if I was to go alone, I'd go for about 20 minutes and panic.
My jumping confidence improved but took along time to get into it.
I moved yards in February (this one has a huge arena), and instantly found myself back at square one, trotting into tiny x poles, not wanting to hack out at all.
Well we've been there nearly 2 months now, and Roo has settled lovely. We had a jumping lesson yesterday (our 2nd lesson) and we jumped a course of 3 foot 3, was such an achievement for me.
And then today I took her for a hack (have been hacking alone since we moved here, but avoided the xc field for over a month becuase she kept going mad down there) I decided to go down to that xc field as its about time we stopped avoiding it. She was amazing, we had a few canters and she was nice and relaxed all the way round
The last two days has really reminded me how lucky I am to own this horse, she really looks out for me, and if I hadnt got her I think I would still be that fearful rider I was. I still get the odd moment out hacking when I worry but then I remind myself how good Roo is
