It's been a busy week, foal number three!

Oh my goodness, haven't you had some lovely foals this year

Love the pixie ears! (They occasionally crop up in old-timey spanish bloodline mustangs and it is my understanding that the plains tribes called them "fox" ears) There is an entire breed (rare) of incredibly elegant horse from India that have extremely curve-y ears.
All of your horses are gorgeous and all your lush green grass & the bluebells! Well! I can't even imagine how lovely it must be to live in an environment like that.

I started thinking about that breed of horse from India -- it is called the Marwari

Yes they all foal outside. We choose to have them later in the year when the weather is a little kinder, and if they foal in the rain, we wait and then bring them inside after rubbing them dry with towels.
Years ago we sat up all night for days on end, and foaled them inside. We discovered if left to their own devices outside we got less trouble and because they could move about it was easier for them. There is of course the risk of losing one but for us we accept that risk.
There are normally in foal mares in the same field, but rarely geldings.
Once the foals are born and a few days old we add other youngsters, they tend to be kept in line by the broodmares and form family groups, it's lovely to see a two year old, a yearling and this year's foal all grazing together away from Mum..
This years lot are all for sale though Jazztime is looking very special...!
