its been a sad day and i wouldnt want it to happen to anyone!
my best friend and friend went on a ride this morn at 7:30 usual route, the road is straight but didnt make a difference today, a car plowed straight into the back on my friends tb, she only bought him in july, his back end went through the windscreen serverly lacerating his back end, rider fell off and the horse ran up the road and ran into a lamp post he fell to the floor and died about 5 minutes later, rider has internal bruising but is other wise un hurt, whish i could say the same for her lovely tb , nothing fazed this horse and he looked after her well. its so sad, he was bleeding out serverly so even if the vet had got there i dont think they would have been able to save him, my thoughts really do go out to the family and a big well done to my best friend who stayed composed to handle the situation while rider was taken to hospital and her fab horse who stayed calm whils be taken back to the yard.
r.i.p
p.s, it wasnt the drivers fault, the low sun was in his eyes, but he takes full responsibility

This is so tragic, I think this is the same story I read on H&H News page.
Big huge hug for all involved, what a tragic loss of what sounds a wonderful honest horse.
When I had my first horse at livery, we were always contious of the sun, not rising, but going down, it can be binding as has been proven in this case.
xx RIP horsey xx

yes thats the same story, as it was early there wernt alot of people around so i think they want witnesses to confirm the driver wasnt speading etc.

That is dreadful, poor girl and poor horse. The sun can be dangerous. RIP.

((((((Hugs))))))

Sorry to hear of your friends grief and loss - my thoughts are with all those involved in the accident and yourself. I'm sure her gorgeous TB is running happily over Rainbow Bridge.

That is dreadful, your poor friend

Low sun does make driving conditions more difficult but it is not an excuse, it doesn't give drivers carte blanche to drive into whatever or whoever they fancy! A very harsh lesson for us all to drive according to conditions- if you can't see SLOW DOWN

Thank god your friend is ok though, it could have been an even more tragic story
