(((get well vibes))) for your friend. xx

My heart goes out to your friend and her horse, such a tragic accident.

I know the road well where the accident took place as I used to drive from Winford to Weston General many times over when my Mum was in there, it's not a great road and the motorists drive very fast in places., if only this motorist had been more vigilant.

Oh Crikey - how awful

The exact same thing happened to my friend in our nearest village - car drove right into the back of them. Horse was put down a few days later and rider was paralysed from the waist down but did recover and is now mobile.

I am so very sorry for your friend - an awful thing for her to come to terms with

How sad. Thoughts to all concerned.

However to say it isn't the drivers fault because he wasn't speeding is untrue.

You should drive according to the conditions. If the sun is low and blinding so your vision is obscured then you should drive very very slowly, just in case there is a horse, pedestrian etc in the road.

I am very sorry to hear of this tragic accident in which a horse was killed

In many of the instances that I know of where a horse has been hit by another vehicle on the roads the driver has claimed that it was caused by the sun blinding them. I would suggest that about 60% of horses that have been hit and killed by vehicle have been caused by these conditions.

I would strongly advise any rider to avoid riding out on the roads when there is low bright sunlight.

I totally agree that drivers should drive at a very much slower speed in these conditions but sadly they don't and put other road users at risk.

We had a tragic case close to me a few years ago where a horse and rider where both killed by a vehicle that drove in tio the rear of them and the driver claimed that low bright sunlight had dazzled her as she came over the brow of a hill. Sue Webster founded the 'Drive with Caution' campaign as a result of this accident to draw public attention to driving with greater care on the roads.
