I can't believe it's been a year since YO made me the happiest girl in the world and Ned officially became my horse
We've had a lot of ups and downs, but I am still trying to get over the fact that I have my own horse! I've written on my Xmas and birthday list every year (without fail!) "Horse!" and last year on 12.12.12 my wish came true!
What can I say? I had planned to write lots, but I'm totally stumped!
We did lots of hacking, tried our hand at in-hand showing and ridden showing! We had our off days too, he broke my foot (accidentally) just after Xmas, although it didn't keep me off him for long and I was back in the saddle before I was back at work!
He also got better and better, although we still had our issues and he sometimes protested by rearing! (See picture!)
We got our first 1st rosette in a show (2ft Scurry)
We also did our first fun ride!! And I met two lovely ladies and their gorgeous horses
But then it all went wrong. He went lame
His behaviour went right down hill. I couldn't believe it! After just half a year of owning him, I'd broken him!!
Relationship with the new YM broke down and I couldn't cope with a lame horse and a nasty woman, so I moved him to a lovely yard with a fabulous YO.
I'm sure many of you remember "URGENT - Ned has gone!!"
He had escaped. I'd left him for 5mins and he was gone.
I can't remember much of that day, but I remember picturing him laying in the road, having been hit by a car or trying to run with a broken leg or something equally horrific!
I really can't thank you all enough for the support, especially DD for going mad with getting the word out and Carefreegirl (who actually came to his rescue, with another friend of mine!)
He was found, a good few miles from home and thankfully, without a scratch!! He is the luckiest horse.
We decided it was best to move him back to his old yard, new YO nor me could deal with another escape.
After a couple of months, I simply couldn't bare it with YM anymore. He was being demonised and I was almost beginning to wish he'd never come to me. An argument over another horse cemented our feelings for each other and I was kicked off the yard I'd been on since I was a small child
I was heartbroken.
Then, after frantic searching, I found perfection! It was a field, with high hedges right near my house!!
I needed another pony and that's when I got Cookie! An adorable little Shetland stallion, donated by one of my best friends
I thought we were going to be so happy there, until disaster struck again! He ran away again
This time I knew exactly where to look and I wasn't wrong. He was back at his old yard, in his field!!! I swiftly removed him and reinforced the gate, which now looks more like it's keeping in a lion! I can't believe we were so lucky twice!
Once he realised he wasn't going to get out, he soon settled and began to love his new home!
A couple of months after we moved in, I got the vet out, as his lameness had appeared to go...
We got the all clear to ride again!! Wooo!!!
From then he just got better and better! He's improved 10 fold. He's so calm and such a pleasure to be around
I'm hoping to go to my first "proper" show on Sunday, so I'll let you know how it goes!!
Onwards and upwards - Here's to many more years with the Neddy
Now...pictures!!!!!!
