It's cold - is anyone rugging yet/considering it?!

Reading this I feel like a soft owner! My bad doer TB is already out with a medium weight turnout with full neck and a cooler on at night in box. He still has a very silky smooth coat though! Apart frpm around his ears, little rings of fluffy hair, very cute!

Adina is out 24/7 at the moment and has, for the last week or so had a lightweight turnout on. But the last few nights I had put a medium weight on.

She is naked today as the sun has made an appearance!

Our thoroughbreds/oldies have lightweight rugs on. I am a totally natural addict but with the wet weather and our lack of shelter they need it to give them a break from the wet. I seem to have turned soft since comeing on here. What have you all done to me?

I did put on no fill t/o rugs on Friday. Although I have hairy horses, our field has little natural shelter and they are out 24 x 7.

This is the first time since June, but it was bitter with the wind and rain. I also hope to stop them getting too cold and having huge thick coats by doing this.

Rugs off during day yesterday and today but will rug up tonight as it is supposed to rain again.

Only good thing about the weather is we have lots of grass - normally having to feed hay by now.

I still have my TB in a light weight with a standard neck but feeling rather guilty because of all the rain we have been having. If it carries on I will put his MW (which he trashed) underneath his LW to keep him a little warmer.
In october he will hopefully be fully clipped then he will have his full neck MW/HW put on.

had rain sheets on all summer almost, had a few days with fly sheets but thats all. have been in mw ruggs past few days. nicer today so back to lighter ones. they have been rugged in stable too all last week as temps thro the night have dropped.

when it gives rain in the day i put there light weight on when it is cloudy and dry they are nacked and no rugs at night yet there are in i know it has to get a lot colder yet and if you rug up to early there will be no benifit come winter!

Mine has rain sheet on in day, and either naked or lwt sheet on at night if he has been working hard so he doesnt get cold!! He is stabled at night. He is being clipped this week, so will then have MWT Wug on in the day, and a 300g quilt at night.....
