So i sent my clippers off to get serviced and blades sharpened yesterday :o its getting to that time again so when are we all starting to clip and what are we giving our horses??

Both of my guys will get a hunter clip minus the patch. Kia may get legs and head off if we are showing but if we stick to dressage and general fun then he keeps those :) and he will get two of those one in Sept and one in Dec deending on how his coat comes in, hes already casting his summer coat and his undercoat is coming in :o

Eowyn I am hoping to rug up early (getting ready to start) and only give one clip to this year around mid Oct if i can get her to them without her being uncomfortable, hoping to get her out indoor SJ/BD and to a hunt or two :)

So whos doing what and what do you have planned???? :)

Whatever I can get done before the sedation wears off!! It's usually full clip on 1 side & a complete bodge job on the other !!!

Goosd thing you reminded me! Will get all my blades sent off this week! I'll probably do my ridden mare and then about 200-250 full clips on the racehorses! And I will remember to get a dust mask this year ... Coughing up hairballs isn't much fun!

Fany is having all off except legs this year as grew a coat last year that would shame a Yak! No clip for Captain due to no wanting to spend the next 6 months in plaster, luckily he doesn't actually need clipping anyway.

I noticed that kelsi has started moulting badly - seems to have happened overnight!
Clippers are being sent off at the weekend. We will hopefully be hunting this winter but only about once a month, both cobs are having blanket clips.

well I dont know really! What does everyone think? Donovan does the in hand showing and this will be our first-ish winter.

I'm going to do my own mix between a blanket and trace clip - Take head neck and shoulders off + under her tummy but keep all the back end on

Ummmm I will wait and see.
Tb will probably stay unclipped unless her workload picks up.
Stiggy is getting a total clip again this year.
The newfie boys will get clipped but to what extent is anyones guess...see how it goes on the day!

I got my first horse in Jan this year so this will be my first ever clip. Girlie usually has a blanket clip and the legs off.
Not sure if I should buy a set of clippers and give it a bash or see if I can pay someone to do it.
Any clipper suggestions greatfully received.
When do you usually start to clip - do you just wait and see when they get too hot?

My boy will get a full clip, inc face, legs!! Dont like a single bit of winter coat!!!;) Not sure when im gonna start clipping yet tho as its the first-ish year ive done it myself (usually cousin does first) :o Any ideas, when do you do your first clip???:D

I can't believe people are thinking about clipping already! Apart from today, when it's been rubbish, we appear to be experiencing a major heatwave! It's been too hot to do anything. My horse had quite a thick summer coat compared to normal and he's currently moulting like crazy - it definitely isn't summer coat coming out and winter coat coming through, he's just losing loads of hair and has a much thinner coat underneath it.

I do need to get my blades sharpened though...

Not sure about clips yet, probably a blanket. He doesn't work hard enough for anything more, unless I do, for once, actually do something I talk about and take him hunting! If so he'll have a hunter clip. He'll stay unclipped until end of Oct hopefully though as I'm away for 2 weeks early Oct so I'll leave him to get hairy and muddy.

I'm planning on buying my own clippers this year and will probably just do a high blanket clip, although usually take it all off but we will see, depends on work load really.

I love having a clipped horse and rugging up - yes I am odd ha ha ha :D :D

Full clip for mine :) i love freshly clipped horses- they feel so nice haha!

It's only August though, this thread has made me depressed! :p

My boy has been moulting for the last couple of weeks, normally do a high blanket with half head but this year will do hunter clip as do lot more RC and dressage work with him over winter and been part welsh grows a very thick fluffy coat.

Ok, for the last 2 winters (of huge snow) I have fully clipped exactly one week before snows came. Bearing in mind he lives out (with megarug and shelter) I am going to leave it this year as too icy to even bring in last year.

I think people forget the winters in Scotland and how early they hit and stay til ;)

My clippers are coming back tomorrow so getting them in early (and them having to do nothing to them probably) means i have them back in record time :D

Should imagine OH will do ours the same as usual, all off except legs and leave a half head, that is when he can fit them in, had to wait until he had done all of his clients horses first. I can clip but he is such a perfectionist I daren't!
