Temperatures were 30C yesterday and hotter forecast for today. Rip has perfected his own method of cooling down.

1) Find a flower bed, preferably one just dug over.
2) Dig until you hit damp soil, carefully aiming excavated soil onto (just swept) patio.
3) Place as much of body as is possible in said hole and smile sweetly at your Mother

When we came here we wondered what all the holes were, now we know!

LOL!! Yes that's what my dogs do too Enfys. When you were viewing farms over here before you moved, were you like me? I kept wondering what all these huge holes were for.....and I saw them on every single farm we viewed, including ours. It wasn't until I flew my own dogs over here that I figured it out the first Spring!! The thing is my dogs have never been diggers in all their lives, but it is just soooo hot here it does make sense.

I will be clipping Poppy, my old collie at some point in the next week or so, as she gets heatstroke

Actually yes it is clever, makes complete sense but it just pees me off that he has to do it in the only bit of 50 acres that I've actually bothered to try to grow anything

Yes Tia, everywhere we went we saw the holes, it just didn't click. I had never had dogs do that in the UK. I haven't clipped my dogs yet but have put my Oster rake to its' intended use and taken bucketloads of underfluff off both the dogs.

Don't laugh too much, but I have clipped my hugely fluffy barn cat (OH calls him 'The cat formerly known as Fluffy' at first I began by cutting out the matted bits and then...ugh...bits of hay and a winters collection of seeds from the barn, he LOVED it. I've never known a cat enjoy something so much, he even lay on his back for me to his belly and didn't stop purring for a second. OH's hair clippers will never be the same again though!
