bleedin, fecking weather

they say its all we talk about over here well this year I am not bl**dy surprised

i am fed up with being cold, i want to go riding without numb fingers and toes.
PLEASE

I wanted to do a fb update like this but you've saved me the effort. I really want to moan and whine about the weather. I decided against riding this lunchtime, it was 2 degrees but the gale force wind was arctic, absolutely vile, thoroughly fed up with it.

i am at home and its cold in the house too, i just cant get warm

moan moan whinge whine but i really do feel it justified:p

I must admit I do appreciate having an excuse to spend the afternoon watching the racing rather than carting logs. Just not sure how much snow i'll ahve to go through on teh way to and from work later

It's vile here in S.Glos, blowing a gale, even had horizontal snow this morning and it's freezing cold. No grass in the fields, and hay just gets blown away to the other side of the electric tapes, so horses are only out for the morning, and then they just want to be in. My mare has kept her head so well with all this weather but bringing her back into the yard today was just too much, we have a large ash tree at the gate which was doing it's best jet engine impression so we had a few rears then a mad rush into the stable with eyes out on stalks! Any notion of riding can wait until saturday when at least it looks like the wind might die down!

Truly fed up with it now, longest winter I can ever remember with horses, but then we have had a whole year of terrible conditions, what with last summer's endless rains. Only good thing is that the easterly winds have dried up all the mud, but it's probably going to be a bad year again for hay, as the crop is already a month behind.

Snow blowing around outside, here. I fed the ponies then left the yard, after quickly laying a bed as I might put them in, tonight. Working up the energy to go and fill some haynets, but not feeling the love for the outdoors, right now. At all.

This is my fear, we normally have them off the field for a month by now and have fertilised and lovely hay would be on the way - it'll be another poor crop in late Juy/ Aug at best. No sign of overnight 6+ temps for at least the next couple of weeks.

I had serious thoughts today about giving my horses up. I'm getting very little pleasure out of owning them, I'm permanently cold, exhausted and broke. I've given up trying to do any groundwork in the school with my youngsters, a huge bouncy Standardbred filly and an Exmoor built like a small tank, the wind constantly blowing makes even leading them from the field to the stables a white knuckle walk of terror. All previous education has gone right out of the window. My previously very ill Arab is still poorly, he's on steroid injections every other day and there's no guarantee he's going to survive, I'm starting to lose hope.

Sigh.

Sorry, I think I must be having a blue day, hopefully everything will seem better tomorrow..

It's not too bad in Cumbria, still very cold but dry. But I've just got no grass at all and it's starting g to worry me. Need the heat and rain (not a lot) to make it grow. It's desperate.

Snow floating about here in Berkshire, but fortunately not settling. Bl**dy evil wind too feels like it will freeze your nose off. :( Completely fed up with carrying thermoses of hot water to the yard for putting in feeds - the stuff from the tap is just too cold. It has to end sometime . . . . doesn't it?

If this is Global Warming, I hate to think what it's going to be like if they announce the next Ice Age!!
Seriously though, I'm concerned for our wildlife, the birds should be nesting by now, if they hatch any chicks, they will die as there is nothing for them to eat, butterfly numbers are going to be decimated, again because there will be nothing for them to feed on if they do come out of hibernation, same for the hedgehogs. I have yet to see a single bee, and the bluebells are going over before they have even flowered.
Nature is pretty resilient, but it's going to have a knock-on effect throughout the year I think.

Nature and our poor farmers - horses for most of us are a hobby. Farmers even if not diging out dead aminals from the snow are spending ££££'s feeding those that should be eating grass by now, and fields are yet to even be planted with spring barley around here, fields sown in the summer look totally dead and they are talking about sowing something else instead if it warms up as all that original seed is lost.
Not great for food prices this year either.

Yes, coming off the back of last year's decimation, where a lot of crops had to be left to rot in the fields, I think this year is going to be a very hard year for farmers.

Lincolnshire is OK. We had to bite the bullet this week because we can't hold off any longer and have drilled about half the sugar beet now. Fingers, toes, legs and everything crossed as if we have much more of this weather we won't start harvest until August! I'm not bothered about riding out in it, horses are only there for our enjoyment, just hope the weather picks up for farming sake.

I'm with you, I was told from Wednesday we were getting warmer weather.....and double figures at the weekend.

I want to put my heavy weights away!!!!:(:(:(:(
