It's like Totilas all over again...

surely you couldnt blame them if they did sell her. the money she must be worth...!!!
especially if they have her mother and offspring..!

But then wasn't Totilas rumoured to be sold to Laura too at one point? How about history really repeats itself and it turns out it's PS who has bought her?! He already bought the lovely Bretton Woods who was 3rd.

I don't think Lynn would have gone and said in black and white that she's not sold if she was. At the moment. Personally, I think it would be a crying shame for Michael Eilberg not to keep the ride all the way to the top - he is a world class rider and deserves a world class horse. But having said that - if you were offered 5 mil, who wouldn't be seriously tempted? horses can go lame so quickly......:(

I think Micheal deserves to keep the horse/ride they are a fantastic partnership and the way things are looking she could soon be catching totilas up and maybe even over take?!!!

I wouldn't be disappointed if laura got her though, it would be an amazing partnership, and certainly in good hands although it would be nice for Micheal to be able to get her to the top himself considering he has worked very hard on the mare!!! I'm still desperate to here how the chestnut stallion (now gelding I believe) laura and Dr.B bought is getting on?! any news?!

what ever happens though I do hope the mare stays in the UK, she's such a great hope for the future of the british sport especially considering Alf isn't getting any younger, and we need someone to stand up to the Germans ;D HAHA!!!!

xxxx

I wish I spoke German as I was standing in front of Schockermoler when Farouche was working in and would love to know what he was saying and writing in his notebook. It was beginning to rain and I thought just what we want a thunderstorm. A leading German Equestrian Magazine critic said he had never seen a mare as good. The President of the WBFSH said he was worried all through the test that Michael might blow it as this horse had to win. When the judge said for the walk 10 we would have given 10 for the trot but could only give 9.87 as she broke off the corner,we knew she had won.A 4 year old stallion sold to Germany as a two year old won the four year old stallion class so two wins for the British Hanoverian Studbook a daughter society financially independent of the German one. The stallion was known in Britain as Deni Deni but has a competition name as Deveaux 3 in Germany.

How many stories do we hear of people who were offered X amount for a horse and turned it down, only for something awful to happen? The good thing here is that Woodlander is a breeding operation, and as a breeder why would you not want to retain an interest? With ET these days, it would be easy to have foals 'out of' this mare while she's becoming a dressage superstar. I couldn't blame them for selling for a second, but I hope she stays at least with a British jockey...

This... But also, not being a dressage specialist and having never even seen him ride live, I accept that ME is a wonderful talent and of course has the best training on tap. However I can't help wondering if, if this filly is as unique as people say, it wouldn't be best to have her produced to the very highest levels by someone who is themselves highly experienced at these levels. It would be a great shame if she was held back in any way by her jockey having to learn the ropes on her...

ME has an excellent and very tricky horse in Torino and Farouche's mother Rosie is at PSG currently having been produced by ME so I somehow think by the time Farouche reaches GP he will have produced a number at that level. Maria has not done too badly producing Two Sox as her first GP horse especially as they have Ferdi on the ground.

According to Eurodressage, Farouche is part owned by 3 people one of those is Lynne one is Alison Walton and the other is Ferdi Eilberg. Hence why I do not think she has been sold.

Accepted - momentarily forgot we were jumping about 4 years forward!

Another example would be Charlotte and Valegro, she hasn't done badly producing him either despite little experience at GP ;) So perhaps I'd better just crawl back under my stone :D

I can see the point re production, but all the parties named have huge support systems and I think dressage horses can be much more a "team effort" than event horses (although, saying that, my native land seems to specialise in relatively young girls producing 4* horses ;) ) with a record of successful horses being produced by relatively inexperienced riders but very experienced trainers.

There are also lots of people "waiting in the wings" having good small tour/average GP results, just waiting for the right horse.

Anyway, what will be, will be. A horse like that is going to tempt some serious bidders and the reality is, to get to the top these days, it doesn't matter how good the rider is if the horse doesn't have the goods (Although, to take up TD's point, a great horse is only as good as its production. :) ) so if the horse is sold, it will likely come down to who has deep enough pockets! Good to know the Eilberg's at least have shares!!

I have just worried myself! When did dressage become so interesting that I actively read Eurodressage? Is this a sign of age or that because dressage is interesting now?

Michael Eilberg would certainly be no hinderance to the mare in any way. Not only is he a fabulous rider, but he will have learnt to train horses from the beginning and has one of the best and most experienced trainers as his father. His sister has trained Two Sox to perform to the height of his potential so the technical and moral support is there in depth - his mother would be a very good and supportive pair or eyes on the ground too. In fact I would suspect that Michael has more experience of bringing horses up through the levels and riding and training a variety than Laura who is a super rider but has tended to ride more made horses.
I really hope that Michael keeps the ride as he could be one of the most exciting prospects for British dressage and has done absolutely nothing wrong on the mare so far.

Agree with everything that Halfstep has said 100%!

oldvic- I don't agree with Laura having ready made horses at all! She has LOADS of youngsters atm and some have gone from newly backed to PSG level already with her.

She may have loads of youngsters but they are not seen out and about in competition. Michael may not yet have ridden GP at Laura's level but he has not been found wanting with what he's done so far and he's an experienced competitor having done a lot of show jumping. I'm not knocking Laura at all but Michael will have had a broader base of experience.

ME does ride at Grand prix level, i saw it at CDI3*. I have seen him ride the mare and is an excellent & fluid rider, also riding some very hot and difficult horses. there is a question about soundness and longevity when horses so young have done so much. but then wecan only ever speculate how other people train/keep their horses.

He's got 2 rides at 3* level and has been ranked as high as 109 on the FEI list. That doesn't sound amazing, relative to Laura, say, but there are all sorts of people in the top 200+ who have been/will be on top with that "special" horse. For instance, Patrick Kittel has gone from 247 to 50th since the last ranking, Charlotte Dujardin went from 235 to 64, Matthias Rath was 169 and is now 14th . . . ;)

I hope she dosen't get sold, shes an outstanding mare and it would be lovely to see ME keep the ride on her. As Ferdi part owns her though i should hope that she wont be sold.

Yes he rides grand prix, just not yet at the level that Laura has. That is not to say that he's not capable with the right horse. I don't think the mare has been pushed for her age - she seems to have competed mainly in young horse classes - so hopefully she will stay sound and last.

"I can say categorically that this mare is not sold to anyone. There was and is a lot of interest in her but we are looking at several options including further shares of ownership.

In my mind she is almost without value as I always thought that she was remarkable with no weaknesses and with a convincing mechanic behind and not just flashy in front.Having seen her operate in Verden, I know I am prejudiced, but I think she is the best in the world, whatever age, and there may never be another like her.

Her foals carry her stamp clearly and to me as a breeder and to the other owners, she is special in every respect. "
