It's mid May and....

its not stopped raining all weekend in manchester! :( take our rain clouds we dont need them! :D

Oh yes we do need them! And thats from someone living in the wettest corner of the north west in a pennine bog! We've had a week of rain and hardly anything else since it snowed a month ago. We have hardly any grass, we need it for this years hay crops, the resservoirs two fields away are starting to go down, the ground is still firm, even here!

grassonly just started growing and horses have medium wt rugs on at night. have been naked all winter staerted rugging in March......................................

Lone voice of dissent here . . . although it's windy, the sun is out more often than it's not here, the grass/wheat is shooting up and the ground is good having had some decent spring rain. Our field are out at night - but they are still rugged (just lightweights though). Only sour note is that the wind is chilly enough that the horses need to be wearing lightweights during the day (fields very exposed).

I am sorry so many of you are struggling, though . . .

We've had two dry evenings over here in 'Sunny Hadfield'.. we actually managed to get plants in their summer tubs.

Trouble with the rain we've had in Lincs is that it's accompanied by stong wind which is first class at drying up the ground instantly so it's not getting a chance to soak in and do any good for the ground.
Forecast below 7 degrees every night this week - so not great grass growing conditions at all.
I've got about a foot of grass on the hay fields and I begining to wonder whether it might be necessary to graze them over winter rather than cut them at this height - not sure it'll make well this short.

we need the rain for the grass to grow, and its working!! :D
It is still warm despite the rain, mine are out in lightweights to keep them clean for riding as they live out..they'll not melt!!

Sorry to put the dampener on things further, but the summer seasonal forecast is now looking rather similar to last year as the jet stream is too far south again. Just been to the feed merchants to buy fly repellent and a bottle of blue shampoo and there was a girl in there ordering a medium weight turnout with neck. I wonder who will be getting more use out of their purchase!!

We had summer recently, four 'reasonably warm and sunny' days.

That's it.

Ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out?"

Does that mean the May blossom being in bloom or the month of may being over??

We've had rain forecast for the past week, but only had a few showers, not enough to wet the ground properly.I rode across the fields tonight and the dust was blowing around like a sandstorm.Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, tomorrow's forecast for the West Country is appalling, upto 60mm of rain, strong winds and even snow on higher ground. Tomorrow is also the last day of the Golden Horseshoe endurance ride, so hats off to anyone tackling that tomorrow, 50 miles of hell I should think!!

The hills were white with snow this morning! The grass has started to grow at last though.
