I have done 3 home visits this week and they where a total waste of my time and effort and left me rather angry.
The girl has rang every day asking "when is my visit" (erm , work hold your hoses) she sounded ok on the phone, wanted the dog yesterday type person:rolleyes:, even though she was told she had to be cat tested (she thought this took a few hours)
At work but squeezed the check in, I looked past the fact the place looked like beyroot (sp) cos it is the garden we focus on not the home (although if the neighbours looked like summit from (mad max) I would draw the line too
So gets to the house, (a hole big enough for a dane to get through) between theirs and the neighbours on one side and the other side completely leaning over and touching the ground and gate broke off  also no room to walk on grass for the actual dog as over grown with nettle/brambles and straw like weedy stuff, (mini jungle)
The kitchen was pitch black as curtains closed (4pm) and the kitchen like tip, (Im asuming curtains closed to made it look better in the dark)
He did not work, she was at uni part time (so why could you not have wiped the hover out or bought a bottle of flash)
Lad proceeded to say "I need to fix the fence and strim the garden" erm "why the feck did you not do it b4 I came" (I actually said this) "no money" waiting for council!! "what to clean your house too"
Sorry, my house resembles a **** tip most of the time, but when folk come calling its gleaming.
Their are just as many time wasters as their are desperate people being turned down.

Another check, I want to share the dog between my boyfriend, mothers and aunties house during the week, Im not sure if either will take it yet, but im going to ask :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
Rant, stressful day:(
"What will you do if they don't like/want the dog in their home? "erm, Im not sure, may have to hand it back

Yep some rescues may be with us a while, but ain't sending them to this, no matter how long they ARE WITH US.

All funnily enough said "can u bring the dog for us to meet and see if we like it"
"Erm, like hell" if u fail what the check is the point in meeting the dog first, in which case they all failed miserably and it showed on my miserable face :o
Its been a long time since I failed a home check.

And yep LML im still trying my best to help other dogs go out and sort the lab:o, at the mo im having to take her back each day, cos my life is so hectic, sheis a hand full though!! she has had nil training.

Sound slike a nightmare! What's the betting they will buy a dog off of preloved or somewhere. Poor thing will have to live in a dive :(

(saying that, why do these people want to live in a dive, and are happy for others to see they do:confused:)

Keep up the good work :)

Lol....I said to OH, "why would u not clean your house before someone came" I came to the conclusions that:

A, They where bone Idle.
B, They thought I was gonna be a scroat and my house looked the same:rolleyes:
C, They think, "oh its a rescue, they are desperate to home them"
D, Feck only knows
E, All of the above.

Haha, a combination of all four I should think. The curtains closed thing is wierd too  It doesn't take much to even shove dirty pans in a cuboard if they are that lazy! Perhaps they were trying to hide the view? was it a side window or back window? Not that it really matters :D

Frustrating ... I don't understand why people want to live in a pit either or, come to that, mind people seeing that they do.

I can still remember our HV for Bella which was almost 6 years ago now - we were soooo nervous. We had Willie at the time (got him from a shelter that doesn't do HVs) but had only had him for a month so we were still working on a lot with him and we begged him to be on his best behaviour. It worked - mostly - he did play nicely with the beagle they brought with them (owned by the volunteer doing the HV, not one available for adoption) but then went on to try to snatch a biscuit off the plate as my OH was offering them around :o. Obviously they approved us but it was super-embarrassing. It was also, as we came to learn, typical of the darn mutt .

Lol, there was no hiding the view, I walked in the back, through the jungle with the delipitated fence, and drove round the front, the bit that resembles bey root, one window was view of back garden the other of beyroot.:D
The kitchen lookd like the modernised ones the council had just fitted and new floor, so why not keep it clean??

I really dont understand the mentality of these people, my house looks like a bomb has hit it most days but never for guests.
I have just spent two hours tidying up (only done downstairs so far... I decided a wine break was needed) for my CLEANER coming tomorrow. I dont expect anyone other than OH to put up with my filth :p

I would never show anyone around my house in that state! Skanky people. Were the council gonna buy the dog food too?

See I love the check where there is another dog, or just normal folk living in the house :D

Haha:eek:
Someone bought me a mug that says 'A clean house is the sign of a wasted life' ... I think that sums me up!

I found 3 bottles of wine from christmas in my tidying sesh.. I might do it more often if there is alcohol hidden around the place!

You can bet they'll be on Facebook or wherever right now whining about how unreasonable rescues are...

When I had my homecheck done I was knackered cos I had cleaned the whole house - it was spotless, I'm surprised they didn't turn me down on the grounds of not being able to deal with dog hair and pawprints:D

Same! The woman who came to home check me for Bryony arrived slightly early and caught me red handed with a bottle of fabreeze, trying to give Tysons dog bed one last going over :o

Yep, bet they will be moaning about how unreasonable rescues are! My place is generally a tip but I do try to make an effort when people are coming, never had a dog home check but can remember when the ILPH were coming I was absolutely knackered with all the poo picking, yard sweeping, pony grooming etc.
I have done a few home checks recently, and thank heavens have met some lovely people. It can be quite time consuming when people get out the photos of their previous dogs but it is good to know they were so well loved.
I have actually thought that so many nice people are choosing rescues rather than puppies there won't be any decent homes left locally if Evie has a litter.:(

I love the people who keep ringing demanding when the HC is going to be done...and demanding its done at a time to suit them...ummmm hello HC's are done by VOLUNTEERS in their own time, using their own petrol and most certainly will not be expected to jump when you say!!! Even better are one's who are not in when you've made an appointment!!!

I must admit after 20 odd years of running a rescue I've become extreamly good at sussing out muppets over the phone, although do still get caught out sometimes. Just had to remove a dog we'd rehomed from someone because it was being kept outside (in a shed...it's a pug..not exactly an outdoor working type!!) after the people showed off their 'dog room' in the house complete with it's own TV, dog beds and toy box... Lets just say they certainly knew my feelings when he was removed.

I have done homechecking and I was lucky enough only to do it for very well to do people.

However one was my next door neighbour at the time. I went to meet them in their house, looked around, checked the garden etc etc. Everything was grand - nice people too, I knew them!

Rehomed a dog to them. A year later the dog is kept outside on his own constantly and not walked, they have a new baby ...

So even with the best will in the world what seems outwardly great at the beginning can change dramatically once the rescue rehomes the dog.

It's a shame that there wasn't some homechecking periodically afterwards.

Yeah no doubt I will be slated:rolleyes:
I too clean like around when folk come and at other times when I can be bothered, but I generally don't live in the kind of state this house was in, I wish I had no dogs, no work and lots of time, my house would be spotless.

Well if it where a time I have like 2 dogs, I may reserve a male, I need a night shifter to protect me and regan is no spring chicken, so when the pack have reduced another shep, akita or rotti will have to be added.
However I need to down size right now :o (hell I keep enough for behavioural reasons) I am always gonna need a protector:D

Well I did get an incling, she sounded nice, but the whole "being way to inpatient" was getting on me nerves, as these tend to be the worst kind of homes where the dog bounces right back:rolleyes: and when she mentioned the area it filled me with dread:o

We have done many a random post check, an removed a pup and and adult dog.
Your are of course correct, and it is easy enough to fathom who is a divey once you get their to be fair no matter the set up, but making an effort to at least try and appear normal, it's not to much to ask :D seems some are so dumb they cannot even think that far forward :p

I agree Cayla, if you can't be bothered to make a first impression to GET the dog, how does that bode for the long term care of the dog.

Yes ok they don't care about mess, but really, a lack of care for yourself can sometimes show a lack of care for everything.

No doubt these people decided on a whim one day that they wanted a dog, and probably had a buthers at the freeads and saw how expensive they are, and decided rehoming was better. It doesnt surprise me the way they were, some people just dont have a clue.

I've had a couple of calls over the years about wether i would ''donate'' a dog to a family rather than seel it at full price. Like i have said before I dont do it for the money, and any profits go straight back on the dogs anyway, but if someone cant afford or doesnt want to pay out for the puppy in the first instance, then what does that tell you about how they are going to handle the expenses of a dog throughout the rest of its life.
