I am starting to think me getting my GSD is not to be. Sadly Kruger (Cougar :( ) has been taken off the GSD rescue site, which suggests he has a home, which is lovely, but I can't help but thinking its not to be.

As much as I want a GSD, I want the right one, someone who'll fit in with my pack and my home life..

:( sad times

Don't give up, there are still plenty of options for you and it's still early days, don't rush it. Just because you can't have one you have your heart set on (tip - try to avoid doing that!!) doesn't mean the right one isn't out there for you.

Did you go ask about the one on Gumtree? And have you tried a (responsible!) breeder, our last three have been older pups who did not make the grade for showing and came to us for a pet home instead. Henners on here got her Paddy at four months that way.
Good breeders will hang on to pups if they don't have the right homes lined up, the link to the kennel in Wales I PM'd you a few weeks ago might help.

I did contact the Gumtree one, I am almost constantly on the scout on all the rescues for the right GSD :( I think its hard because I'm not just after a GSD, I'm after preferably not a pup, and also a certain type. Maybe I am making it harder on myself.

I really don't want to just go out and buy a GSD, but its looking that way is going to be the most feasible.

It's a shame u are so far away, we have a young bitch coming in or in (I heard mam say), apparently she is fab at guarding but will not bite hence why she has been sent back from the army and the prison, they say her temperament is fab, she is a big softie and plays like nothing else but she is just a guarder not a biter and does not have the aggression in her to push her, and needs a family home.
She may have been suitable for you, if you where not a million miles away.

If the dog is meant to be then distance is no object....imo. :D We travelled an 8 hour round trip to get our first rottie and she was wortth every second of it. Even though she threw up the whole way back.

We did an 8 hour round trip for Otto, although his breeder did cook us Roast Pork for lunch :D and my Parent's did Leics to Aberdeen in a day for my Dad's last pup!

I had Ed (horse) from Yorkshire - all the way to Wales, distance is so not an object, however, I am sure I would be best to come and meet her and bring dogs too?? That would mean a very long car journey for them, maybe I could think about the train...

I will contact you Cayla, once I have thought about it :)

Aah sorry Kruger no longer available. Have you had any reply to your original application, let me know if you haven't and I will do some shouting! In the meantime I will also keep my ears and eyes open, biggas is defintiely anotehr site to keep an eye on.

No, no reply MM, I have been keenly awaiting my phonecall but no luck as yet. Was wondering if they would accept a homecheck from a local charity as otherwise I could be waiting forever?

Thanks for the other sites CC I will keep my beady eyes on them :D

I think its really poor no-one has been in touch with you, and will being saying so to the,so probably won't be popular. I know another email was sent round everyone asking again for home checkers in Wales but there is no excuse not to even call you. I will message the person I deal with and try and find out whats going on. Will ask the question about homechecks from local charities, have you had one done?
CC did you ever get a reply to your email?

I have been a homechecker before, for Many Tears Rescue, so hopefully that will stand me in good stead, but I know they have a few local homecheckers, so may fare better than GSDR..

I saw him too and although whites would not be my cup of tea normally, I think he is absolutely stunning and sounds like a super boy.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From me and the Asbo Twins :)

Oh and now I've seen Buster in the first regional thread.... Dammit he beautiful!!!!

I think i am finding a type - tall and chunky!!

Waaaaaa wiggin out!! (sorry too long staring at gorgeous GSDs mayhap?!)

Well I haven't had a reply either, so not sure if I have helped with my (slightly) snotty email. I did point out that it wasn't very good publicity if people on here were discussing the lack of respons, perhaps it hasn't gone down very well.:(

It's not just GSD rescue that have this issue, when I was looking for a dog I enquired with a greyhound rescue organisation about 2 dogs from their website, and they took so long to get back to me that I sent a response to their eventual email with Henry sitting on my lap!

Kain is pretty awesome :)

My response from rescues has always usually been very good, I understand GSD rescue are looking for homecheckers in Wales, but had they phoned me already I would have been able to give them the number of Many Tears who I'm sure would have had a H/C in my area who maybe could have done it for them, in the abscence of a GSDR homechecker in my area.

The thing which worries me is this lack of response is exactly the reason why, in a lot of cases, people just think "Stuff it, I'll go buy one" and end up perpetuating the puppy farming problem. I think rescues sometimes have to balance their ideal protocol on rehoming, with the fact that their dogs need a home and they may miss out on one simply because someone didn't get back in time.

I'm just feeling a bit put out atm to be honest, but thats my stance on it.

I totally agree with you, and said so to them, which is possibly why I seem to have been sent to Coventry.;)

LOL No friends!! :p

I can understand their sentiments, I really do, however re-homing procedures have to be flexible - I'm not saying DONT home check, or be selective with homes, but perhaps be prepared to adapt the system to each home.

For instance, it would be silly for them to insist on me seeing the dog before I get homechecked, simply because I am so far away it would be a long way to go only to find I subsequently fail the homecheck. So in my instance it would be a good idea to homecheck me (because I want a GSD and will wait happilly for the right one) and then wait for the right dogo to turn up.

However, as pro rescue as I am, it is tempting just to go out and BUY a pup, simply for conveneince. Rescues HAVE to rival this convenience. YES be selective but it should be selectivity (is this a word) tempered by common sense.

Otherwise we are fighting a losing battle with rescue dogs...
