Ok so after our nasty hacking accident 4 years ago, me and Toto have always been unconfident hackers, so I used to leave the hacking to my sister with Toto. This year I decided to stop being such a wuss, and have been hacking more and more. Today was the icing on the cake
Went on a hack on our own for the first time in ages, down to the small xc course across 3 fields near our yard. Walked down with no spooks or anything and off we went, had a trot and even a canter.
Was feeling super confident so decided to pop over some little jumps
Shouldn't have worried, Toto was fab
(don't worry, I was hacking alone but my Dad was watching in the top field so someone was about while I jumped, just in case!)
Then strung the whole course together starting with the chair fence that I'd always wanted to jump but was too scared! It's quite wide and about 2ft 3, the biggest xc fence we've ever done

then cantered, yes CANTERED
, to a small upright, cantered along to the pallisade, then into the second field along the river side, he didn't even look at a canal boat that was on the river, and jumped the little tiger trap, the tyres and the brush no problem, had a little wobble at the next fence but in fairness it had been moved since the last time he'd hacked in that field, so that's fine
Popped over the next little fence, then a small gate and finally a mini table fence and stopped him straight away, and he was only in a snaffle
Walked home on long reins, no jogging or anything, absolutely chuffed to bits
Actually can't wait to hack properly again
Sorry for self-indulgent post, just so happy with Toto pony and have gained lots of confidence, I think Toto has too
Few pics from after our hack
Laughing cos he managed to take his headcollar and fly fringe off!
Oh and from jumping in the field last week
Thanks for looking
