So this time last year we were trawling through horse ads attempting to find something suitable after we out horsed our self previously. We came across a lovely cob described as suitable for RDA and up for only £2500 quite cheap for something described as being so ploddy and bombproof real riding school type horse.
Little did we know that this super mare would grow to be such a huge part of the family and my best friend. Then known as Lady she is our Tessy Bear who has taught me so much and my riding wouldnt be what it is today without her help and understanding willing to do it nature. She has brought my confidence on in leaps and bounds , i'm not ashamed to say that when we first got her my mum would lead me out on a leadrope when hacking because my nerves were that bad, now i would happily go for miles alone just me and my best friend safe in the knowledge she will always try and look after me no matter what.
I certainly didn't think this time last year i would be cantering round the field bareback on a hogged cob with only a head collar and leadrope to assist with steering. And i can certainly tell you i didnt think we would be racing her daughter who flys ahead in a flat out gallop little curly tail in the air like an arab ( shh dont tell her she is a cob cross). Tessy was headshy when we first got her and wouldnt drink, graze or put her head down near us at all... she was also a pain to catch unless you had food ! A year later she is still flinchy when grazing but drinks near us, as soon as she hears us coming trots over whinnying at us and even lets us put the clippers up her face to get ride of the Mr T look she develops.
I think it's safe to say the mite infested mare who was unfit, out of work and struggled to canter has landed on her feet here, but then it's safe to say i have landed on my feet finding a horse i can totally trust she will never be replacable and is that one in a lifetime friend.
I hope we have many fun filled years ahead of us as this is only the start, with the trailer coming we are doing a sponsored ride in September and i hope to start competing..... Stressarge on a cob... ? we will turn our hoof at it anyhow.
Just few pictures from over the year which has taught me the true meaning of a friendship and dedication
(dolly stood on my toes)
